    Chamber and Reamer

Do you have a bore scope or know someone that does? You should be able to see what's going on in the throat. Have you checked to see if you have any chip weld on the reamer before you get to final depth? I always stop before I cut to final depth and check. An easy way is to run a copper...

    Borescope with video monitor

I have been using a Hawkeye borescope for about 15 years. I am looking for a borescope that I can use with a video monitor. One that I am able to show the customer the bore without them having to handle the scope. I am not really intrested in the one that Hawkeye makes. Anyone using...

    Etcho-O-Matic

I have been using a Marking Methods 300 for about 15 or 16 years. Like RWS stated you can do alot more with these systems than you can with a New Hermes. And they are fast and easy. I can mark my logo on one side of the barrel and the caliber on the other in about 2 minutes or less. Very...

    D1-4 gunsmith back plate

Does anyone have any information on the production of a GRIZZLY D1-4 Gunsmith Back Plate? There were some posts on the subject a couple of years ago from Shiraz Balolia of Grizzly, saying that it was in the works. Maybe lack of demand would not make it cost effective? I see that Mr. Balolia...

How do I remove the factory barrel from a Remington 700?

PG, I use a action wrench I bought from Brownells. Just put it around the receiver ring, tighten screws, hit it with the heel of your hand. If the barrel is really tight hit the handle with a dead blow hammer. Make sure you put a spare 1/4-28 screw in the bottom of the wrench head to keep...

    Savage Rebarrel

Brian, When we rebarrel a Savage Rifle, I just cut a shoulder and fit it like a Remington 700. Just true the face of the receiver. That way you do not have to mess with the barrel nut. Boe

    Your opinion of Electro-Chemical Etching

Oldpup223 I have been using a MARKING METHODS etch system for about 16 years now. Real top drawer system. Very easy to use and will etch .010 deep or you can do a light etch. You can make your own stencils or Marking Methods will make them for you. Hope this helps

    Remington Action Cheap

kansasvet, I have trued and rebarreled a few of the actions you spoke of. I think they call them the 700 SPS. As far as the action goes, They true up just like any other 700 no better no worse. And they shoot just as well as any other 700 action does. Just that the BDL actions...

Can anybody testify about the best expected accuracy of a Browning BAR?

I had a BRAND NEW Short Trac 270 WSM that came in my shop a month or so ago. The customer said he couldn't hit a pie plate at 60 yards with it. I normally won't work on anything but bolt guns, But I felt sorry for him after the beating he took on the price of this new gun. After looking at the...

    1/4 x 28 1 3\4 stainless flat head socket cap screws

Anyone know where I can order these screws. I have some that Brownells sells. Don't like them. I'm looking for some that have a cleaner look. I have some that are black, but the guns I am building now have stainless bottom metal. I can find 1 1/2 but no 1 3/4 stainless. Thanks Boe

    Reamer chip weld

Jerry, The first barrel was supposed to be 416 stainless, but after calling the maker he said it might have been some leftover 410 stainless. That one I had a hard time getting slick threads on. The other barrel I am pretty sure it is 416R stainless. Shoot, at this point who knows...

    Reamer chip weld

Jerry, Thanks for the advice. After reading your post you must chamber the same way I do. I have I been chambering that way for almost 20 years. I have an arkansas stone that got more use on the last 2 chambers than in all of the barrels before. And I do use a floating pusher. The only...

    Reamer chip weld

Both of the barrels were stainless, Yes finish of the first barrel was poor. It got so bad that I was having to stone the reamer every .025 of chamber depth. I was not able to finish the chamber no matter what I did. I ran the speed up to 180 RPM and down to 60 RPM. Nothing would help. The...

    remington 700 factory barrel removal

Skeelee, I have been using a big action wrench from Brownell's. the barrel vise is a Hart with some powdered rosin applied to the barrel before clamping. Most of the barrels come of with just hitting the action wrench handle with the heel of your hand. If I can't get it off then I...
