history question speer 52 match with silver jacket

Calhoon in Montana makes varmint hunting bullets, they make all their jackets with a coating they call 'Slick Silver' I'm not sure what the jackets are made of. He sold them in Canada 25 years ago before he move Stateside and I had a bunch of them I seem to recall the jackets were not plated...

Does anyone know who can polish a Stolle aluminum action ?

Took me about 10 hours to wet sand polish my Teddy. I was able to use tiny blocks and wet paper from 600 grit to 2500 grit then polish. Kept the flats flat and angles/edges sharp and straight, the 'TEDDY'/STOLLE stamp looks proper.

Learned something on another forum today

Reminds me of a guy who comes to the local range, never shuts up about weatherby, all his weatherbys shoot half inch groups always. He sets his weatherby up on a bench and fires off a box of weatherby factory loads. Cease fire is called everyone walks up to grab our targets, he shot an 8 or 9...

    Browning X-Bolt Feather trigger?

They are new, very similar to the new trigger on the winchester model 70. They are adjustable to a small degree poundage wise, but to get a decent light poundage trigger pull you will probably need to change springs. Generally they are not terrible as far as factory rifle hunting triggers go...

Need to know vs. Want to know

Thats all fine and dandy until you get to a match with shooters who shoot and know their business. Showing up with a factory rifle that shoots a .140 lucky group once in a while dosen't cut it. The rifle has to have the capability of shooting in the .1's every group no exceptions, then it's all...

We all shoot but do we all hunt?

I still buy tags and go hunting, have little intention of shooting anything. I just like to go out and wander around with a rifle in my hands for old times sake I guess.

an open message on the real cost of the national debt....

It goes a lot farther than the IRS, every branch of government today is more dedicated to encouraging and exacerbating the problem it was set up to solve thereby justifying its existence and increasing it's size. Eisenhower talked about the military industrial complex...

    SC Model 70 Sporter owners?

Not sporters but featherweights which are the same except for stock configuration and 22" barrel. Have 2 of of the SC manufactured model 70's, a 7-08 blued/walnut featherweight and a .270 win stainless/walnut. The inletting on the 7-08 left plenty to be desired, large gaps all around the action...

Stiff Bolt Part 2. Pics up!!

Looking at your brass I see what appears to be a big shiny ring right at and immediately below the case wall shoulder junction. Looks to me like some chips may have accumulated and went around with the reamer and gouged out a grove at the chamber shoulder a bit larger in diameter than the...

    Help diagnose...Case Neck Separation???

Beats me. Don't know if it's possible but was entertaining the idea that maybe the case neck was gripping and sticking to the chamber neck upon firing and staying there and the body of the case not gripping the chamber wall and going back against the bolt face and stretching/separating at the...

    Help diagnose...Case Neck Separation???

Just talked to Pete, he informs me that he has been neck sizing these cases using a lee collet die. Anyway he is starting off with a new batch of brass and is going to keep notes, measurements etc to see what the new batch does.

    Help diagnose...Case Neck Separation???

The difference between the lines on the cases also me puzzled, Some of the cases have only one line and some lines do not go all around the circumference, are at randon places along the length of the neck, some cases have a line all the way around and a second line only partially around on the...

    Help diagnose...Case Neck Separation???

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the necks have never been turned, it's a .223, factory chamber, Winchester brass. He was not sure exactly but figured the brass had been fired at least 15 times. Took a look with the borescope and the chamber neck shows no machining marks that would correspond...

    Help diagnose...Case Neck Separation???

A fellow shooter asked me at the range what might be going on with his brass and showed me these. What are your opinions on what is happening to this brass. appears to be some sort of case neck stretch separation as you can see it is on the inside and outside of the necks you can feel it like a...

    Has anyone hunted wolves?

Wolves will eat grasses, berries, bugs, fish, clams, snails, birds, rodents, coyotes and most any sort of small animal, especially anything newborn, small bears, anything they can kill without undue risk to themselves, garbage, etc, etc, They will even cannabilize their own pack members if they...

    Has anyone hunted wolves?

Well, just as I feared the wolf that started this topic has been commercialized. Apparently the video will air on Wild TV tomorrow, Sunday the 12 of July 2009 @ 7:30 pm Alberta time or the same as Montana time(mountain time) , so you can figure out what time it will be where you are. I don't...
