Yeah, I had the same thought. To the OP, just check to be sure the polish you select is appropriate for aluminum. Put a little on a rag, rub rub rub rub rub.................. you get the idea. Then wipe it off with a soft cloth and admire your work.

It ain't easy to keep the "corners" sharp. I'm gonna say if you want to maintain the sharpness then don't do it. On the other hand, if you just want a shiny action then by all means have at it. Relatively easy to do...easier than it looks.

Polishing Aluminum

A gunsmith that does bluing. If he is a GOOD gunsmith he will be able to keep the angles nice and sharp.

Polishing aluminum is not difficult to accomplish if done properly..................that is, start with the coarser grits, work-up without skipping any grits, and finish with 800 or 1000 grit. Then put to the polishing wheel. In order to maintain the proper shape without rounding corners, it is best to use a sanding block rather than using your fingers.
Recently I found that finishing with a "crazy cloth" prior to polishing on the buffing wheel seems to remove a lot of imperfections.

Note, the polishing I have been doing recently has been on custom billet pieces for restored show cars.

Took me about 10 hours to wet sand polish my Teddy. I was able to use tiny blocks and wet paper from 600 grit to 2500 grit then polish. Kept the flats flat and angles/edges sharp and straight, the 'TEDDY'/STOLLE stamp looks proper.
