    Eley Batch Testing

I'd agree, for a benchrest rifle. But you could also test other types of rifles with other types of stocks with that Gemini thing. I don't think my 1712 silhouette rifle and its skinny round fore end would be helped much by a Pappas rest, for example.

    Eley Batch Testing

Hmm, well, then why do you suppose the Eley test data states it is a Gemini rig, and the HPS site says that Eley uses their Gemini rigs? The fact that it's attached to something massive doesn't mean it isn't the same thing. And it sure sounds like that's what it is. Part of what you saw there...

    Eley Batch Testing

The rig Eley uses for testing. They're not too pricey, either. Not cheap, but not insane. USD $406.75 http://www.hps-tr.com/rigs.asp

Makes me want to get one of those HPS Gemini test rigs.

    Eley Batch Testing

Why are people assuming that fliers on his targets from his rifle mean that the lot in question is at fault for them? How can you be sure it isn't simply because that lot doesn't fit that chamber as well as the other lots that don't show fliers? How can you be sure that if you take that lot...

    Eley Batch Testing

"Gimme a good one." Seriously, I'd say it's just a matter of having to test and see what it likes. I wouldn't imagine you can say something like "I would like to get the best results with ammo in the 1058-1060 range, so please build me a barrel for that." Every barrel/bore/chamber is...

    velocity vs. barrel length

Nobody's seen the test where a guy took a long barrel, tested several different types of ammo, and cut it back an inch at a time and retested? I'll look for the results again, but IIRC all ammo was slower with the longer lengths, until it got down to the 16-18" range. Stated another way...

    Eley Batch Testing

Ah, I see, so it sounds like having your rifle set up with the barrel and action free floated with the barrel clamped right near the action. Have I got that right? Interesting. Someone physically pulling the trigger? Or do they have some mechanism for that, too? Sounds like the setup would...

So you hand over your rifle and wait to see what they say shoots best from it? That is, you don't shoot your rifle, they do? If so, any details on the whats/hows/etc?

    new annie 54 need opinions

IMO: 1) http://www.mwerksllc.com/products/anschutz.html (tell him you've got the 0.187" rod from #2 so you get the matching insert) (Mike Lucas doesn't make Anschutz guides due to offset bore, btw) 2) http://www.ivyrods.com/ and his 0.187" rod w/ standard 8-32 threads 3) many/personal-preference

    .22 Rim thickness

It's not necessarily going to go to 6:00 simply because it was slower. Any change in velocity can also make it leave during a different point in the barrel's vibration, throwing it somewhere other than 6:00. Or any number of other reasons.

    Parts source for BRNO #4

I think it's been mentioned that he just travels a lot for work, actually. I don't think he's been having any problems. Probably just a little busier than usual. There's his email address, which I don't think I even had. I believe I've only contacted him on RFC, when I picked up a steel...

    Parts source for BRNO #4

Brnomann over on RFC for Brno-specific stuff, but a lot of parts can also be taken from CZ and their 452 rifles. Brnomann's been MIA lately, I think I read, but he's the go-to guy for Brno stuff.

Bore Guide for Anschutz 54 Action

He doesn't make Anschutz guides due to their offset bores. I've got one of these for my 1712, with a matching insert for my Ivy rod, and they're pretty nice. http://www.mwerksllc.com/products/anschutz.html

42 yards, water test, stopped muzzle

I guarantee you the bore is nowhere near the temperature of the side of a glass of ice water. Water condenses on the side of that glass because the glass is cool, not because of it's temperature relative to the air. If you raise the temperature of that glass by 50 degrees, and the air by 50...

42 yards, water test, stopped muzzle

So, you're saying that water condensation is occuring at above boiling temperature....ok, whatever you say.
