    Improving chambers (Ackley Improved)

My point being it doesn't say "308 AI" or similar. I am to believe this is a standard 308 Winchester go gage. I already have one of those!

    .284 WINCHESTER - muzzle velocity

I cannot safely hit 3000 with the 180s using a 7WSM and a 26" barrel. To get 3000, I have to load 70.5 grains of Ramshot magnum. In this rifle (Savage custom shop) this is warm and not the best accuracy. I can't get better velocities with any other powder I have tried with this bullet. Maybe...

How do you pick a hunting bullet

lots of good bullets As a full time big game hunting guide, I get to see LOTS of animals shot with lots of calibers and lots of different bullets. There are many bullets out there that work just as well as the Barnes bullets. I don't know of any better when you limit your range to, say, 500 yds...

    Anti-seize grease for bolt grease?

I have always used the shooters choice stuff in the tube (red colored grease) I have also used that gold stuff that comes in a jar -can't remember the name now. I recently found this stuff and I think it is better yet- with tight fitting brass, it seems to stay in place the best...

    Improving chambers (Ackley Improved)

My only AI reamer is a .260AI. I asked Dave Kiff to send me a go-gage with it. The gage he sent says .308 on it. So this is wrong???

    7mmWSM Reamer

If you are talking about a 7-08 Remington, then yes, in spades. I would not do another one though- there is no good 7WSM brass to be had. The better route to go is a 7x300WSM which has a longer neck and allows you to use Norma 300WSM brass.

Machine Shop Technology class's in AZ.

The only real one that I know of is here in Prescott at Yavapai college. Prescott has a glut of gunsmiths/ rifle builders etc because they come to the school, like it here so well that they stay:D I think you can take a basic class at MCC but don't know for sure.

    Birmingham 12x36 lathe

Jim, unless by some miracle I can find a suitable used machine in the next 30 days, I am going to buy a PM 1340(T) toolroom lathe. It is a Harrison M300 without the Harrison Name plate. Same factory, same machine and about $5000 cheaper than the Harrison. Have only heard bad things about one...

    Fluted Bull Vs Smaller Barrel?

I'm not understanding what you are asking. If a sporter tapered barrel has the exact same surface area of a fluted barrel then it is going to be quite a bit heavier. If you are shooting 5 shots, the surface area is not doing you a bit of good. Mass is doing you the good. If you are trying to...

    G4003G question

That is very possible! If this lathe is indeed in stock, it's probably not a bad choice for the $$. I thought the fit/finish was a little rough and much preferred the G9731 as it was a lot cleaner and better finished. Shiraz claims that the bearings in this are the "best Taiwanese bearings"...

    G4003G question

You're in for a long wait to get that lathe when there are plenty of equals that don't have a spider on the end of the spindle! The only advantage is for convenience is threading and chambering barrels. You might check and see how long the wait is to get that lathe and if it's too long...

    A- Bolt trigger

The A-bolt trigger is the worst design I have ever seen. They are absolute junk. I have had them fail on both outings I have been on where someone had one. An acquaintance in AK says that he has never seen a single A-bolt trigger survive a Kodiak trip!! The dust from a dirt rode rendered one...

    Scopes

Hard to beat the Vortex for the price. Also, the Burris Fullfield II is a lot of scope for the money. The cheap Nikons are no more.

    shneider barrels

He has a pretty loyal following and does a lot of Govt work. Not the most personable guy in the world, but it doesn't get in the way of his excellent barrels. I have a .338 1/12 twist that almost doesn't foul and shoots better than a 340 WBY could be expected to shoot. I now prefer cut rifled...

Chinese made lathe - never/ever, he said

It won't surprise me at all if China self-destructs before they ever get to the quality of the Japanese. With the pollution, birth defects, cancer rate etc, things are going to come to a head in a few years and force the Govt to change the way things are done. There are some good things being...

    Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5 - 30X

Don didn't have the fine plex- it was two weeks out. Bruno's had the fine plex in stock. I got one of them;) They have one left $667. Dennis

    Gunsmith Lathe?

A lathe with that open bottom gear box should not be priced that high. I think he is very attached to it and really doesn't want to sell it all that bad!

    Grizz Lathe Choice

I'm leaning towards this one I am trying to decide between the Chinese G0509 or this one. http://www.grizzly.com/products/14-x-40-High-Precision-Tool-Room-Lathe/G9732 I can't get over the small spindle bore in the 13 incher.
