Use a lead slug so you can measure it.

You should slug the barrel and let that tell you where to cut. Go back and read the ARA News Letter, do a search for Bill's articles in Precision Shooting, the information is out there. I don't think you want to cut it off a 24". There is no easy answer to this question, every barrel is different.

Get a good fitting bore guide and a good rod before you start. If you can find a bore scope you will learn a lot about what works best. I use Bore Tech (2 wet 1 dry) if you need more, a lose fitting brush with Bore Tech, working on the first 6". Try to keep the number of passes down the barrel...
