Just a rumor

last word i heard was butch has scrapped the idea, say it aint so !!!!!!

i've hit a snag

unless i can resolve this floating dovetail thingy..i'm stopping my quest for accessories:eek: it's my understanding that the the floating dovetail was put there to relieve stress on a relatively thin reciever in my feeble brain the thoughts of a f/d allows for a shift in things that could cause a change in point of impact.
and i don't like the thoughts of a thin receiver.
that's strike one !

thin reciever?

Howdy Gambler,
I have a Rem 513 matchmaster that is STOOPID accurate! Poor little thing is held into the stock with 1 screw. It does have a bit of bedding about halfway down the barrel channel. And then there is that bit of wood left built up at the end of the stock to give it some upward pressure. Poor lil' ol' thing used to like CCI Green Tag, back when I used to shoot it at 25 yards while waiting to go downrange to change out centerfire targets. Somewhere, I think I still have the .064 target I shot one evening, again at 25 yards. The shot that opened it up was the last one. I did not want to shoot the 5th shot, it was just a hole. So it ended up being a slightly bigger hole, but not by much. Don't really know why, but I have never shot it at 50 yards. Might have to take it out again. She used to like plinkin' spiders and such that would wander on the target (briefly).:D

I told ya that to tell ya this. The reciever on a 513 IS thin! My Brno #3 S looks big compared to it. I am gonna guess Ol' Sneezee will be ok. Commence accessorizing!

visions of a custom light sporter based on ol'sneezee or a sister, were dancin in my head..along with visions of Pammy Anderson and various porn stars..there's also room up there for a soccer stadium:D
but..big BUTT oops, i must follow da yellow brick road and pose my questions to the wizard, stop now or carry on..if i only had a brain:D

I would not do a custom build on on a CZ

I love these guns. As you know I own 6 of them.

But I would buy a proven gun. I wish I had saved and when a winning gun becomes available I could of pounced.

Yea you pay a little more but when a Myers, Brock, Voelker, Davis, Calfee and ETC. winning gun comes on this board. You save years of frustration. Ask me how I know!!!!

Generally the best return on the dollar is a gun built on a custom action.
I own an IBS 600yd gun that shoots lights out. I will be lucky to recover half of what I spent. It is built on a Remington 700 action. Gretan, Griffin, TM Stockworks all helped with this great rifle. 3000 dollars in a 700 Action Build. No the gun is not for sale.

I wish I had built it on a Barney Lawton Action. Yea I saved 200 dollars.

The CZ are huge value. I spent many frustrating hours including yesterday trying to get my Anschutz 64 actioned guns to shoot. All my CZ Americans will drill dots. What is wrong with this picture!!!

Just passing along some friendly advise.

Glen got his CZ shooting! Look out. I shot two (out of two) little bitty groups with it in the wind yesterday. Easy to shoot well now and more as good as my custom Suhl was. I am not kidding!!!

take the wood

it's my sincere hope that these killer shooting czs show up at ARA , RBA and other organized events and do well enough to earn the respect they deserve.
if they can shoot itty bitty groups, they should compete and take the wood:)
some may already be shooting in RBA sporter class

dovetail

Earl,

You can tighten up the dovetail with a short setscrew. Then you still have room for the
action screw.

bulzeye pro

took ol'sneezee for her bedding job and when i got home the optical booster
waz in the mail box, i think it was money well spent..stuck it on my 7mm-08
deer gun and what a suprize..beauuuftullll.

gunguy iz gonna center and anchor the dovetail then use stainless pillars.
gunguy don't specialize in rimfire, but tween the two of us and that first run
caffee book i took outta tha shredder and glued back together we kin git er done..only a few pages missin, but i got a few pages missin:D

when the cz gets back from it's bedding job I'm going to play with it some, BUT the Dr's. say I've got familial tremors, the beginning of Parkinson's desease..don't see much chance in shooting anything but a heavier gun and free recoil:eek:
i wasted one whole year trying to put together a good light gun, just to scrap it and start over, don't know if I've got the will to start over

i hope they find something for parkinsons, my grandmother, uncle and aunt on mother's side had it..i thought it was just anxiety.. as it got worse when i was stressed.
this might be part of the eye focus problem as the head shakes also, i can't let my shoulder touch the stock , even my jacket sleeve causes a tremor in the xhairs.
it's not going to stop me from smellin gunpowder, i'll find a way:)

cz vs 54 annie sporter

do ya think ya can do enough mods to a cz american sporter to make it shoot with a box stock 54 action annie sporter, ya gotta keep the factory barrels and stocks..do ya think huh ???

ifn ya can, i've still got $500 less in ol'sneezee than a nib anschutz counting the v24 and the 4x booster;)

I have two CZ 452 Americans. One is an integrally suppressed, and the other has a 16 inch threaded barrel. They are no competitions rifles, but they are fun to shoot. I thought you guys might like to have a look.

I ran my Anschutz 1710 head to head against my CZ American about half a dozen years ago. In those days, I only had a little Midway aluminum rest and leather rabbit ear rear bag filled with sand. I had no wind flags. But, I did have two Swift 6-18X44 scopes made back when they had some quality control. So, I packed up and headed to the range with all the different makes of ammo I had on hand. I shot from 50 yards using a concrete benchrest. Both the rifles had been cleaned the day before the test with the homemade "Red's" bore cleaner (recipe picked up at Camp Perry one year by a friend), a bronze brush, and cotton patches.

CZandAnnie-1.jpg

I did not clean the bores throughout the test and I did not touch the scope turrets after the test started. The letter Fs on the left of the target paper indicated the fouling group fired each time I changed ammo makes. Those are BC 1" flame dots.

The test is not worth much really but one must admit it was the same shooter in the same conditions fired in an hour with the same optics.

The 1710 turned in more one holers but I believe the little Czech rifle made it nervous. The CZ had the factory trigger simply adjusted to its lightest setting resulting in a 3 lb 2 oz creepy pull. The Anschutz was stock as well with its factory trigger set as low as it would go to 2.2 lbs (just as the owners manual stated its floor was).

Our local club shoots the USBR game and my friend Willie Rhodes still holds the club's Sporter Class record with a 236-5X fired with his left handed CZ American.

A few yeas ago, my box stock CZ American's accuracy and reliability convinced me to make it my CZ Sporter T Class 3P rifle. I mounted one of the now discontinued Sightron 6X42 HBR II scopes on it. A heavy sling hold seems to have no effect on its POI. It did well at the 2008 National Sporter Match held at Camp Perry, Ohio. We finished 8th out over 180 T Class shooters. I wish I could repeat my club record score of 595-35X (August 09 out of a possible 600-60X) at Camp Perry but the Lake Erie winds and the big game pressure usually get to me in the rapid fire strings:

CampPerry2008-3.jpg

The trigger creep has improved some with thousands of rounds of use and the action keeps getting slicker. The rifle comes in under the 7.5 lb overall weight ceiling and its trigger lifts the three pound weight at the registration table every time when raised gently.

CZ sends a good rifle out the door and some CZ Americans are better than others as noted in this thread. I have two Americans and the rifle described here groups half the size of the second one I acquired. Here are a couple of the best 50 yard groups I have ever shot with the more accurate CZ American (the bottom two on the single bull):

I really enjoyed reading this thread. I am not much of a gun tweaker but it is fascinating to check out all the mods folks can make to a CZ American.

Thanks,

Danny
