Best Choice For Bench Rest Action

Jackie's advice is sound.......I have 3 Pandas. The first one was bought 15 years ago on recommendations from other shooters, and because I got a deal on a 9 year old unfired action. The next 2 were bought because I'd observed most of the others in use. I've been to Kelbly's shop.........I'm a...

    transporting flag poles

I use a cheap plastic gun case. If you will be carrying the case full of stands in a Van or SUV leaving enough of the foam in the case to keep things from moving will save you from listening to a constant rattle. I have a nice ski bag left over from my downhill skiing days that I might start...

    TMBR stock

A+ on the Kelbly's TMBR. They have a long forend, a 1/2" flat on the buttstock, a low center of gravity, and as an added bonus, manage to still look like a rifle stock. I switched one of three rifles into one a few years ago, will finish the second this winter, and will likely do the third...

    Masking flutes ?

You could glue appropriate sized round stock (metal rods) into the straight part of the flutes and mask the tapered ends. If you could stand deeper flutes you could blast it then have the fluting recut...The first method sounds cheaper. A lot cheaper. -Dave-

Match fees ... Are they too high?

Greg, Thanks for the link. It sounds like Doc played a big role in gun politics in his day. However, he has been gone since 1985.........I think its safe to say circumstances regarding NRA recognition of the IBS may have changed. -Dave-

    Lost a Friend

When Carl Baker called yesterday and told me about Vince's passing I was kind of shocked. Vince was one of the guys who was always friendly and helpful when I was just getting started. Somehow I don't think about people of that kind of character no longer being part of the game until they are...

Match fees ... Are they too high?

Hey Dean, You make a good point regarding the IBS considering NRA involvement. I would be surprised if more than a few shooters had any objection to a few bucks going toward protection of our constitutional rights...All of them...The Second Ammendment is the key to keeping/losing them. Gerry...

    cold weather load development question

That sounds like proof enough for anyone that tuners work, Pete. Did you happen to go back to the original setting to see if the mouse ears came back? I've got a few different collars I've made up and tinkered with; this may be the season to put one on a good barrel and tote it to a match...

    Pleasant Surprise

Well, last Sunday did reach the high 40's, but the "late afternoon showers" ended up starting before dawn and continued to the point of flash flooding. It didn't get very light outside either; it looked like late evening all day. I was hoping this weekend would be decent, but it was near zero...

    Who? for barrel fluting

Back when I first started where I work, some of the guys tried to get me to try golfing with them. I told them we should combine our games........You drive the ball as far as you can, I get one shot to take it out of play. It sounded good to me........... -Dave-

Which neck turner Pumkin or k&m?

Heat sink... I have three K&M turners and they work well for me. I use a DeWalt 18V drill, full tilt in low gear. I have a 3" cube of aluminum that I lay the tool on between cases. The tool stays cool and the neck wall thickness produced is very consistent. The K&M is a great tool at any...

"New Look" for the IBS webpage

Thanks Dick, you have always kept the IBS site in great shape. It's nice to have a good site as part of our organization and sport. -Dave-

    Pleasant Surprise

Thanks Jackie, the "After I found the load it shot just as well" part is what I was looking for. I don't think we can expect powder to be identical lot to lot, but hopefully the new 8208 will consistently be accurate with minor tweaking.......and have the wide window that we're all looking for...

    Pleasant Surprise

Lot numbers I have 1 pounders of lot 4736, and 8 pounders of lot 4798. I've seen mention of 8 pounders of lot 4773 mentioned here. Are there any others? Have any of you shot multiple lots, and if so, is the powder consistent from lot to lot? Thanks, -Dave-

Congratulations to Herb Llewellyn 2 new LVS Records

Congratulations Herbie! It doesn't seem like very long since Kim and Herb came on the the scene. Both of you have shot better and better over that short time to the point that winning and record-setting performances are a regular thing. Good for you both... -Dave

    Weaver scope repairs

Hi Al, I was told that they are now repairing the scopes instead of just sending another one out like Meade did. I have the letter in front of me that was sent back with a friend's scope, it shows what they found wrong....And he got his original scope back. I'll find out soon enough; the one...

    Weaver scope repairs

Well, I asked about the 30mm tube and more magnification. Dale told me that all of the suggestions that are made on their web site are forwarded to their Product Development Engineer. The Tactical scopes are getting all of the attention now, but we sure could try to pile the inbox up with BR...

    Weaver scope repairs

Weaver is now owned by ATK. When they were owned by Meade the scopes were sent back to the owner as "within specs" or replaced instead of repaired. I know of a few scopes that were repaired by ATK this past year with good results. One of my Weavers is from the first delivery to the US in 1995...
