    CZ 550 American in .308

I have a CZ550 American in .243. I bought it b/c I wanted a gun that was made of all steel and like most of the features of this gun. It's a accurate gun but you may find that the "free-floating" stock is rubbing the barrel as most do. Some light sanding in the barrel channel and you'll find...

    Rock Creek Barrels?

What is your opinion of Rock Creek barrels with regards to Bartlein or Krieger? Are Rock barrels metal any softer that you have noticed when chambering?

    Starting seating depth

I'm confused here. I too am running a Krieger barrel on a .308 with a 95 Palma chamber and just measured the distance to the lands using the same gauges this weekend. My measurements were the following: 175 SMK 3.202 comparator 168 SMK 3.215 comparator With that said, how are you measuring to...

Best powder for 175 Sierra MKs

The load I'm trying to find is actually for my KMW (Krieger 24" tube 1/11 twist). I had mentioned that I found a decent load for my LTR using Varget.

Best powder for 175 Sierra MKs

I apologize...I'm attempting to use Varget powder with Lapua brass, CCI BR2 and am loading SMKs @ 2.810. Is there a better powder in terms of consistency that I could try? Some mentioned IMR/H4895. I have tried RL-15 in the past and wasn't too impressed. I have tried OCW and this is what I saw...

Best powder for 175 Sierra MKs

What powder do you guys find works best with Sierra 175 Matchkings? I've been using Varget and have tried RL-15. Varget worked best in my LTR but doesn't in my custom .308 24" barrel.

    "Three Rings of Steel" Question/Discussion

I keep seeing a lot of reference to a Sako extractor in a 700 style action and this led me to asking this. Jim Borden is a well respected 'smith and I know he went the route of installing a Sako type extractor in his Alpine/Timberline actions. Why did he go this route instead of a Rem. style...

    Kreiger barrel break-in

I clean the barrel when I first receieve it and then I shoot away....This was with my Krieger. I don't buy into break-in as a bore rod in the barrel that many times up front can't be good.

    Surgeon Single Shot Short action

I just had a new tactical rig built on a Surgeon. It's a fine receiver and it is worth what you would be asking for it. I can't even look at my Remington tac rig in the same light any longer.

    The Energy Non-Crisis

Guys, I've read quite a bit of the discussion on here about gas prices and it's enlightening. I make good money but I also drives 19K miles a year to/from work. Therefore, the gas is definitely affecting my discretionary income. With that said, I was pointed to this link recently and it was an...

Question on timing a new bolt

There have been reports that 155 Scenars in a factory barrel don't do as well due to their dia. You may have better luck with SMKs out of your LTR.

    Got it. Thanks.

    LTR not feeding consistently...why?

This is a .308. Dan, Thanks for the info. I will give this a shot. I have a new spring ready to be installed but was planning on using the same follower. This follower is different than the follower in my ADL in that the ADL follower looks to be shiny and stamped where as this follower looks to...

    LTR not feeding consistently...why?

This is somewhat of an amateur question but thought I would ask anyway. I have a Rem 700 LTR and it refuses to feed the 2nd shell in the mag. The bolt wants to ride over the case head and catch the shell in the side and bind up. I have replaced the magazine which did not change the issue. What...

    Remington's new Mod. 700 VTR

I really think Remington needs to address what they are putting out these days and match it to the prices they are asking. This gun has a CHEAP plastic stock on it that offers no more than the Savage Stevens stock and even the Stevens stock has pillars. However, the Stevens is half the price...

Which action for "custom " rifle?

I have gone with a Surgeon one one and a Borden Alpine on another. It really depends on what you want to do with the rifle. I wouldn't recommend a Surgeon on a lightweight mountain rifle. I too have the typical Remington actions and they have never let me down in factory rigs. However, they...

    Remington trigger adjustment help?

I'm having some trigger woes after adjusting a remington trigger (non X-Mark Pro trigger) on my LTR. I followed these directions: http://www.varminthunters.com/tech/crisp.html However, here is what I'm seeing which I wondered if this is normal: 1) Trigger has always had a little creep which I...

    Spiral Lock Threads?

Thanks for all of the information/advice...I apologize I had my nomenclature wrong (tenon, receiver ring, etc.) It looks like you guys translated what I was asking.

    Spiral Lock Threads?

Can someone tell me if spiral lock threads are superior to typical V threads when fitting a new barrel to an action? With that said, how many 'smiths choose to use spiral lock over conventional threads? Lastly, say I purchase a new custom action with threads in the tenon? If I want spiral lock...
