    Anschutz Help

I believe Anschutz makes a 30mm ring for their odd dovetail. BK are great for BR. If you shoot postion you will want a rail to move the sights, like the one sold by Champion Shooters. These blocks work great using standard Weaver rings, like the Burris. http://cz452.com/weavermountsnew.html...

benzy2, I'm in the same boat without BR experience. I can think of several potential issues: 1) The uneven wax has caused the bullet to be aerodynamically out of balance increasing drag 2) The bullet has a weight imbalance directly from the wax or indirectly from being deformed, increasing yaw...

    A Barrel That

Lilja and Sierra have a couple of interesting article. It looks like I need to factor in the density altitude when doing comparisons. But, using two chronographs seems to be the correct approach. In effect, I would be calculating difference BC's for a given rifle/bullet/tuner configuration in...

    Airline travel

Make sure the airline you book through is actually flying the plane. You could book on Delta, for example, and end up on an east coast commuter with a different restriction. Mark

    A Barrel That

I'm in the process or working out how I might use two chronographs to do just that. If someone has already gone down this path and it is not measurable, please stop me. Any input is welcome. Here are my thoughts: 1) Compare two chronographs measuring any differences in their calibration. 2)...

what makes a barrel shoot better in wind?

Yep, most college professors only inhibit true learning. I'm heading to the range for some trigger time too. Mark

    A Barrel That

Most of the discussions have been around what factors with the rifle or ammo we can control to reduce wind drift, which makes sense. But, understanding what happens once the bullet leaves the barrel may help explain why those factors matter or don't. Interesting reading...

At the risk of embarrassing myself with a guess; the lube loads up on the front of the bullet unevenly causing it to wobble creating more drag? Mark

    Winchester Model 75

I have two I enjoy but they were target rifles for the masses back in the 60's. It is not in the same league with an Anschutz, 40X, or 52. Could you get it to shoot? Maybe, some folks get 10-22's to shoot. But you would need to replace the barrel, square the action, lap the bolt, replace...

    A Barrel That

It applies to subsonic, just like the ME109. It is interesting the 2 and 4 groove shoot better. If the marks are in the flow, they might act like a tabulator and actually keep the flow laminar longer reducing drag. Ever notice the small pieces of metal in the leading edge of a wing or in front...

    A Barrel That

I agree that if the bullet is out of round it will increase drag while in flight and therefore will increase drift. But, the rifling marks themselves start well back of the tip and would very probably be buried in the boundary layer. During WWII a German Engineer decided to put a fairing on...

    Benchrest pistol!!

Outstanding 10-22 Accuracy "50-yard groups fired using the factory bipod show that the .22 Charger is a worthy and accurate addition to the 10/22 legacy" There is nothing like a Ruger rifle when it comes to accuracy:rolleyes: Mark

Firing pin and spring for 40x

Interesting trade off, but the spin on a bullet is more like a football than a curveball. The spin would increase the lift slightly, and therefore drag, but that might be offset by the increased gyroscopic effect reducing any yaw sooner. Mark

    Thank you Gordon E, Calfee

Bill, Any chance you compared the muzzle and target velocities? I keep thinking that there is any number of factors that could affect wind sensitivity. But, bottom line, they all add up to changes in induced lift/drag which would be the only way the wind would increase its grip. This includes...

    22 Cleaning and Changing ammo

Cleaning STBE, If you do a search you will find many posts on the subject. There are as many opinions as there are shooters, plus a few more. Mark

what makes a barrel shoot better in wind?

I'm not an expert, but I've read that a barrel with a slight choke at the muzzle will do much better in the wind (and in calm too). It probably makes sense given that if the bullet is not yawing it should generate less induced drag, reducing drift. Mark

    Outlaw Rimfire Matches

Large Prizes I think 80 percent of the shooters would feel like they are subsidizing the elite and a few would drop out. Folks might start to feel differently about competing side by side with someone in the business. Some of the competitors I know have a hard enough time covering the cost of...
