    Sako 6PPC rifle

Besides the 22ppc that I have in the benchrest/varmint style, I also have a hunter model in a 6ppc. I don't think they sold many of these at all and for maybe only a couple of years (anyone is free to correct me if I am mistaken, no offense taken). It has a magazine, hinged floorplate, and...

    Sako 6PPC rifle

DaveT, I also have one in a 22ppcUSA which I suspect the USA is on yours also unless the barrel has been replaced. Sako had the patent rights (not sure if that is the proper terminology) to produce them. At the time the average Joe knew next to nothing about what these cartridges were capable...

    New to Benchrest Clinic

Charles came oh so close to winning a VFS match this past weekend at Damariscotta (Lincoln County Rifle Club). I don't remember if it would have been his first but he led the pack from match 2 forward until he dropped a point in match 5. Only three of 21 guns stayed clean for the day so the...

Leupold Threaded Lens Covers for Competition Models

I have learned that my scope is one of the earlier ones that don't have threads for caps. It has a J as the letter in the serial number. Thanks for the replies. The seller did send along a rubber pair of covers for it, which obviously he didn't have to do, but much appreciated and nice of...

Leupold Threaded Lens Covers for Competition Models

Delaware-did you order a sun shade or threaded lens covers? or are saying to buy a sun shade to get the lens cover because they come together? Randy J.

Leupold Threaded Lens Covers for Competition Models

I just picked up a used Leupold Competition 45x45 but it didn't come with the threaded lens covers. I am not sure it ever did but I would like to find some to buy. Does anyone know what number lens covers I need for the objective and eyepiece? I did send off an email to Leupold tonight but...

    Hall of Fame Points

Pete, if one were to include State Championships into the points race (more a snail crawl for me) you would need a minimum number of competitors, or something to gauge the talent to make it notable enough for Hall of Fame points. I don't think winning a State Championship with 10 shooters is...

Are we missing out on something?

Pete, I am with most of the crowd that responded. I find myself quite busy during the day, loading and cleaning. Maybe if I knew I was going to be on the last relay of shooters and didn't need to set my own flags, maybe showing up at 1PM to shoot my 25 shots on one target might be appealing...

Thank you Bartlein Barrels and Sightron Scopes

This is one of the considerations I made in shooting RockCreek barrels as they have donated and given back to the sport. Randy J.

    IBS Annual Meeting Summary

There is no plausible reason to have backers for a grand aggregate and not for single yardage events. The arguments for backers are the same regardless of how many aggregates are being shot as the need for backers is in the moment. I have seen contested targets that were not resolved to my...

    IBS Annual Meeting Summary

The reason to change the score game to caliber neutral is the same reason the sporter class in group will never change...use one gun and one set of components. Even for score shooters that also shoot some group it would be much easier and less expensive if they didn't have to buy 30 barrels...

    30Br seating

Peter W.-the thread is about inconsistent seating and trying to figure out why the amount of seat is inconsistent without changing the length of stem and some other irregularities, but it is not about tuning. You may not have read the complete thread or misunderstood it, but I thought you would...

    Wilber??

For the past 3 weeks or more when I have replied to a thread, the page " you are not logged in ..." comes up after clicking on submit reply, even though I was logged in. The page that comes up allows me to re-log in of which I do which then submitted my already written reply. Is that normal...

    30BR zero free bore Question????

For the really smart folks (not me), tweekers (Jackie, and Gene) and bullet makers (Robinette and others), they want chamber dimensions and throats that best match the bullet(s) they want to shoot/make. As they are starting with particular bullets, they then match the chamber according...

How I got started in Benchrest Shooting

I was shooting in "chicken shoots" at a local club that with one of the events being a 3 shot "bench class". I only had a hunting rifle to use so I kept my eyes open for a used Sako as one fellow had one which shoot very small groups (when compared to my hunting rifles). I found one in a...

    Barrel ??

My first 3 or 4 barrels were Harts and I did a lot of winning with them. At the time they did not make a 17 twist and that is what I wanted to try so I tried a different type. Also with button pulled barrels, their twist rate is not as precise as cut. My 18 twist was a little more like 18.5...

    IBS Benchrest Surveys (LONG)

We talk about growing the sport but from my experience, there is never any promoting of the sport locally. In Maine we have three clubs that shoot IBS score. There have been some attempts with local news about what Benchrest is, usually out of the Orrington club, but the IBS matches of which...

    Help me out here.

Something I picked up on in a different thread is that score matches, at least IBS, have factory classes. A new shooter that goes to see what it is all about might try their hand using the factory rifle that they just happened to bring along. Being unfamiliar with group shoots, I don't know if...

    General Benchrest Help Needed

grahamtheman020 You didn't mention whether you are familiar with reloading. If you aren't I suggest very strongly as others above did....find a mentor. Provide some info as to your location and others in the area will most likely get in touch and provide a beginner's lesson in reloading...

    Powderscales on Benchrest range?

Just remember that any and all scales that display to .1gr has an accuracy factor that is probably +-.15gr so the "actual. weight" can be .3 grain difference and still read the same number. The only true way to know for sure is to have a better scale able to discern one decimal point better...
