    Repairing broken Kelbly ring.

Round#3, repaired ring installed, not for the purist, but will work on the videoscoping platform that I am playing with presently. Function over form.....................Don

    Repairing broken Kelbly ring.

Brad, that will be plan "b" if my fix turns out to be a real butcher job, which it often does.............Don

    Repairing broken Kelbly ring.

Good idea, I will see if I can incorporate. You are right about the spare, but then I would have the same problem as I do with all my spares, and that is where to find them when they are needed...............Don

    Repairing broken Kelbly ring.

Well I decided to just wing it and start the fix by fabricating a cap piece using a 1/2" wide strip x .040" thick 6061 material from some old windflag vanes, molded to the ring diameter by forcing the stipping into the ring saddle with a 1" piece of tubing. Intention is to Devcon epoxy this cap...

    Repairing broken Kelbly ring.

Family and fellow BR cohorts probably think I am cheap and little crazy to want to repair a broken Kelbly 1" ring, but I seem to get a certain amount of pleasure in rescuing good items that have serviced well throught out the years. Not sure how/why it broke, I am generally easy on my BR rings...

So innovation is dead in BR.

Yup. Wonder if this design is caliber specific or can it be used through out a differing diameter range?.........Don

So innovation is dead in BR.

Been awhile since I have been to a tournament, surprised that I would come across a piece of equipment that I did not recognize. Very innovative design and mfg. for intended purpose. How many others know what this item does?

    Barrel turning question

Yes, this doable, especially if time is of the essence, but like others have said I would bounce this off your gunsmith before committing.............Don

    A blast from the past....

There is one area where I still see this scenario quite often; it's when aerospace engineers go to prototype shops to see how their latest one-off design is progressing or in order to make on-the-fly design changes for ease of manufacturing...............typical over-the-shoulder or stuff the...

    Barrel question

Logic would conclude that since hammer forging moves material from the outer diameter inward toward a bore shaping mandrel that any residual stress release would be in an outward diameter wise direction during an o.d. barrel turning operation. Just a logical conclusion on my part with no real...

    Lathe for re-crowning - needed?

Generally speaking, all the reamer makers manufacture a piloted crown cutter usually used in a lathe but could be adapted and used by hand in a chuck holder since the pilot follows the lands, most popular being the 11 degree cutting tool..............Don

Wilson seater with micro adjustments - worse than those without?

Its not the tops that determine good concentricity, it is how well sized brass brass fits the seater die interior wall dimensions, tighter fit means better concentricity, near interference fit will produce sub-.001" concentricity...........Don

    "solids" target bullets

Obturation! As Jackie said " It has to be soft enough to engrave and seal in the lands and grooves, but not so soft as to simply strip and foul", solids are very poor in the pliability department and will never come close to the obturation capabilities of a copper jacket/lead core...
