    Wolf primers?

There should be approximately .050” protrusion. Protrusion isn’t as important as the amount of force exerted on the primer. Using an original 40 gram firing pin and the original 22-24 pound spring with at least .250” of travel are the most important factors. Greg Walley Kelbly's Inc.

    Wolf primers?

Maybe there are problems with one or more lots of the Wolf primers, since there are so many complaints. With our action, as long as the spring is 22-24 lbs. and there is .250" of firing pin fall, ignition should be optimum. Interestingly enough, the only primer failures I've ever had were two...

    Wolf primers?

No, a .062 firing pin would probably make matters worse. Are you using the original Kelbly firing pin assembly? What kind of trigger are you using? Greg Walley Kelbly's Inc.

    Runout

Amen to this. I remember wearing out a really good rail-gun barrel dickering with issues like loaded round runout. It was all inconclusive and a waste of a competitive barrel. A lot of these ancillary issues are like spots on the sun. Greg Walley Kelbly's Inc.

    VihtaVuori Rifle Tuning Sessions...

Great idea Jack... If anybody has figured out when to turn that dial simply by looking at the way the group forms and the shape of the bullet holes, it’s you! I remember back when I was a lot more enthusiastic about these things…and we would meet at Kelbly’s in the DEAD OF WINTER trying to get...

    Tuners some info.

Jerry, This is an interesting tidbit of information that you’ve posted here. I remember we had discussions about ten years ago on how to get fouling under control with a “magic solvent”, which unfortunately I have yet to discover. If I remember correctly, we both agreed that mechanical...

    Super Shoot and wind flags???

Zippy06 You’ve been given good advice here. Having thirty flags requires a substantial expenditure of money, even if you build your own. One of the reasons for having requested rotations at the FISS is to not only help disperse the costs and convenience of flag setting for the competitors...

Trying to understand more of the upper load window

HopeToBe, It is true that the 6PPC will shoot better aggregates overall when run at the upper end of the pressure window. In fact, every cartridge I’ve ever played with shoots better when loaded at close to the “listed maximum” pressures. I’ve never been sure exactly why this is true, but...

    Sighter Etiquette Question

Jerry, Jeff and Jackie – good responses. Use a little common sense and good judgement/sportsmanship. Generally I check to see if my immediate neighbors have completed their groups before I start checking loads on the sighter, or verifying conditions with extra sighters after my record group...

6PPC LV Barrel Length & Dimensions

There isn’t an optimum length necessarily. Most LV benchrest barrels are 21-22” in length. One could get away with a barrel as short as 18” (cut to 18-1/2” to leave a little extra length for recrowning). There will be some velocity loss with the shorter barrel, but it won’t be a significant...

    Cleaning a "Bead Blasted" action

Don't send out a Stolle action for anodizing - the steel inserts will corrode during the process. After bead-blasting we use CRC brand 3-36 corrosion inhibitor on the action after it is washed with Dawn detergent and water. This helps keep the fingerprint grime and dirt from accumulating. I...
