ok thinking out loud can be dangerous.
if a 6mm bbl was chambered with a 30 br reamer( a 6 mm bushing or no bushing/tapered ala Jackie)
could a long 6mm bullet be seated long in a 6br case so it hit the rifling, with 'reasonable" fire forming load, fired and produce a decent 30 br case ?
just cause I have this 6mm used bbl hanging around.

Why not, mine is a 223 barrel for my 30BR. Don't need no boolits to fireform.

I was going to use bullets and regular powder
with no pullet I was having to clean the chamber/bbl every 10 shots or so.
was hoping to skip that
 
I had someone ask me about doing something similar. I declined. IMO, it's asking for trouble. When you know what it is and what its for, you probably wouldn't ever have any trouble. The problem is when someone gets that barrel after you're gone. They think they have a .30 BR and try to shoot a .30 caliber bullet down a 6mm barrel. You can think no way they could do that, but people can do some pretty stupid stuff.

Agreed Mike.

The rig I use is not a rifle. It is a barrel with a screw on breach block and a firing pin that I tap with a hammer as I hold it into a big insulation roll.

I blow out both 220 Russian to 6PPC and 6BR to 30BR using this method.

Engrave or stamp it with the info. Marker comes off too easy. When I started here at the test range, nothing was well marked, and if at all only with marker or paint. Lots of unknown items. I have since marked everything as it was figured out what it was. I stamped it or now use a laser engraver. In addition every test barrel, gage, fixture, or tool that comes out of my shop has at least my own code number on it. This I keep in a record book with all the data about the item. It is also in our online database. Anyone can see a number, look it up and have all the information on it.
 
I have

simply shot 6 MM bullets through the 30 barrel and it worked nicely. Stout load and plenty of neck tension. I have heard of others who have put a 30 BR chamber in a 6 barrel and that works good. Always intended to do that but never got to it. Now that I have 600 + prepared cases, I have no need to make any more cases, ever, that I can see.

Just finished 20 rounds. Rebated the rims, uniformed the flash holes, and overall length. Used some Remington primers, 35 grains of Bullseye, and a wax plug. My brass grew .003" in length and the neck thickness went from .013 to .011. It took practically nothing to expand and I turned them. They are ready to size, check seating depth, load, and shoot.

Huge +1.

I recently moved, which means I sorted through my 'stuff'. I had tools and gauges I don't even recognize. People tell me I have a good memory, but my recollection of my own tooling says otherwise. Mark it and make notes about it. Notes in a plain text file on the computer are easily searched.

Got any pictures of this setup?

Also will fireforming this way still work if your using the shorter 30br chamber (1.510)?

To do so would you trim the 6br brass to 1.500 before firing? And what sort of powder and wax do use?

Also is there any advantage to fireforming over expanding? Do you turn the necks before fireforming ?
