What's Your Ride?

Many years ago I worked in a machine shop and most of the guys there were into guns, cars, or both.Myself and another machinist who was better
at building motors than me, ran a NHRA legal D/G 55 Chevy in the late sixties. We ran low 12 high 11 e.t's [ 11.87 best ].Our MPH was on the low side because we ran 6:14 gears. Could have done better with a 5:57 gear set. We broke too many parts to afford another one. We should have had wing nuts on the trans. A blown clutch was a regular occurrence and made it difficult at times to get through class eliminations. Managed to win class 7 times. Took a picture of the trophies sitting on the fiberglass hood before I sold it.
One more thing, we always flat towed because like a lot of other racers we didn't feel we could afford a trailer. I jackknifed it on a wet winding road and bent the fender on my tow rig, a 1966 Chevelle SS. After that I got a pickup. Never did get a trailer.

I also find that many Pilots are shooters, sailors, scuba divers and those of us over 65 love our muscle cars. 1967 Frame off Restoration, Matching numbers 435HP 427 with factory side pipes. Though to get my rifles to the range I need something with a lot more space, so it is a Jeep.

I bet that thing is a screamer. What RPM are you working with? What's available in the way of parts? Nice work. Is that a tilt or a lift off on the front of the pickup?

Think you are asking me..

Come off the line at 6500rpm and shift at 8800 rpm. It's good for more. Run 32# of boost, 76mm turbo, 160# injectors on VP 116. C4 auto, 9" with 488's. 1.25 60' and weighs 2350 without driver.

Truck has a tilt front end. Built this back in 91. Currently has a 351W and a C6 trans.

Lee Will post more photos of the 55, have to go digging in a shoe box. Love the 33 and that's a great photo of the motor. Haven't seen one in a long time but it looks like a nailhead.
