The insert in the front ring of the receiver is screwed in. A metal insert is located in the rear of the receiver to engage the bolt cocking cam.
Sorry, my bad. Misunderstood.
Still, is the insert with the locking lugs and barrel threads screwed in or glued?
And, is that piece and the cocking cam the only steel in the action?
On the Panda they did screw in the insert and then threaded the female barrel tenon threads.
The old Teddys were threaded before the insert was installed.
If I am wrong on this, perhaps someone will correct me.
The only two parts on a Panda that are indeed aluminum are the forementioned bolt shroud and the action body.
The steel insert is screwed into the aluminum action body extremely tight, and then all of the subsequent machining operations are performed. I have always understood that the insert is machined from chrome moly steel. It takes all of the load of the firing round.
On Viper Actions, which are very similiar to the Panda, the insert is fully machined and then torqued into the aluminum action body.
years ago and heated the action with a cloths iron to loosen it from the glue. I then went to remove the barrel from the action before it cooled off enough and the bushing moved!. I quickly bottomed it back out and left it. After a couple hours I was able to remove the barrel without the bushing moving. Lesson learned.
