Rude Behavior

To mike in co

You have hit on the solution. Just eliminate the offending post - not the whole thread. Or, how about just stopping a thread - allowing no more posting. But, regardless of what is done, I want to keep the thread - I don't want to lose it!

Not to worry. I have both pulled threads that were inappropriate, and pulled posts that were over the line in an otherwise good thread. I am sure that the other SMs have done the same.

Nah, Glenn, your brother-in-laws stories are too good for you to be banned from Benchrest Central!:D

Gentlemen

The SuperModerators have a function that allows them to delete an entire thread, or just a single post in a thread. We do not have the ability to delete a single sentence or phrase within a single post.

Any shooter can delete his own post at any time.

.........jackie

Actually Jackie we can click 'edit' and get into the post... and delete offensive words but the post will then show it has been edited...

I am with you as far as simply doing a hard delete of the offensive post and leaving no comment. It prevents the on going discussion that leads nowhere.

We have no ability to move posts nor to 'stop' a thread.

The administrator has the unique ability to make a post disappear to the general viewers (XXX XXX should be quiet for a while) but that post can be viewed by the moderators and appears normal for the author.

Dennis, I can't edit anyone's posts. Or maybe more accurately, I don't know how. Not something I would do, anyway. If someone gave the formula for always keeping a PPC in tune, then ended the post with "Your mother wears combat boots" I might be tempted -- after all, people our age had mothers who were WACs and WAVEs; something to be proud of. But in the end, no, as far as I'm concerned, a post stands or falls in its entirely.

There are some folks

and to be truthful, In the past perhaps I could have been included in the group who seem to only want to approach participation in a negative manor. I believe I have outgrown or at least, I have tried my level best to be positive with what I say. Yes, I have soften up, ok but some of the folks who are so negative on these forums should examine why they resond the way they do and ask themselves, " Do I truly know everything there is to possibly know about any and every subject and situation that arises here; and you know who you are :). Why not chill a bit and be respectful and civil? You ain't impressing anyone but yourslef. :)

Charles,

I tried sending you a PM but you have that function disabled.

...W hat happens when you click on edit in someone's post..?

If you do not get a pop up saying something to the effect you do not have access to that function, you have the ability to edit that post...

If you don't edit anything and go back the post shows nothing different. If you edit something and save it... the caption stating 'last edited by' automatically is placed at the bottom.

I can't be the only mod that has that ability...

All in all guys, I think that Wilbur's super moderator system works quite well. We are not special in any way and Wilbur could replace us with most of the other readers who frequent this site at random and nothing would change.

Having a dozen set of eyes on the site is much better than having only one person to do it.

Something that is offensive really does not have to fit pre-defined parameters. We just know it when we see it.

There are some threads that get deleted quickly because they have no redeeming value. There are others that make a change as more posts are added. It is always possible to delete the offending posts and leave the thread but sometimes it is just too late.

I, like others, find it better to just completely delete what I delete with no explanation of why it was done or who was the deleter. I find that most of the people on this site behave themselves as gentlemen and never give any reason for correction.

Dennis, I only get an edit button for my own posts. It may be browser-dependent. I usually use Firefox. I tried a different browser, and all of a sudden I couldn't view the "administrator decided X should be quiet" posts anymore, which I can do with Firefox. But who knows, I'm also not terribly computer literate. It doesn't really matter, as I don't plan to edit other people's posts.

Super Moderator

To the Moderators please continue doing what you have to do to keep this a high quality site it is highly appreciated by me.

For those of you who don't like to play by the rules or have an inclination to second guess those in authority please feel free to go else where as there is no one forcing you to stay here.

I leave in a very political world daily as I try to make a living to support my family and I try to leave all the politics at work at the end of the day.

The last thing I want when I come home and visit this site to gain some competitive knowledge is to enter into the same enviroment that I just left.

If you change browsers I think you will need to log in with that new browser to regain your moderator status. Probably even to post.
