Flat Black barrels

Uh, Al, this is sort of off track, but shouldn't your little logo be "often dis'd moderator" now? Maybe Wilbur took a look at my ignore list & felt that no matter how dis'd your member, we needed extra help?

Ya know Charles?........it was a long time ago I picked this logo. Yet, I'd never considered it in the light of your post.....and although I've been a moderator for as long as I can 'member...this doesn't mean that I'm computer literate.

I probably COULD change the logo with sufficient stimulus but as to HOW???

I dismember :D

Is this actually true? I've got no dog in this fight, just an interested observer. It would seem to me that energy transfer would be a two-way street barring insulation qualities of the coating and other extra-terrestrial stuff. If I were to darken a barrel for heat dissipation I guess I'd try sandblasting it and coloring it black with a salt solution like bluing.

al

You are correct, it's a two-way street - the same heat transfer rate in either direction for the same conditions. But for rifle barrels, for instance, the conditions for heating are not the same as for cooling. Heat is transferred to the barrel, in the millisecond that it takes the powder to burn, by a very large temperature difference. The same heat is transferred to ambient across a much smaller temperature difference, and it takes several minutes. Here, the cooling takes longer, but it's because the conditions are different.

Back in my Boat Racing Days, we always painted the big Chevy's flat black, because that is what everybody said to do. I guess it worked.

David, I have had a set of Hedmann Ceramic Coated 2" headers on my big block Chevelle for quite some time. After many miles, they still look great........jackie

So I'm confuse....

So were you having your stocking work done by a local brothel??

Or was the whorehouse just stocking the patterns?

Or were whorehouse stockings somehow slipped over the stocks?

Or did you just spell it wrong, were some of ya's whorehouse stalking???

Is THIS where ya's got the idea for the ribbed barrels??

We need clarity here........

Damn, al, I was just passing on what I was told. I'll leave it to an enquiring mind like you to do a com-pre-hensive follow up.

Besides, I ain't got the spare cash to go into it in detail....
