Bi-directional threads

I have cut multi lead threads, and even a diamond reversing thread on a level wind lead screw, but never anything quite like this.

It looks like he is having a lot of fun.
 
This is the guy that also has one about making an impeller pretty much like a screw with a major pitch change by swapping gears and using 3-4 special cutting tools. Quite impressive.
 
For the most part the thread contact area is
small and they are not all that strong.

For something that does not need to be strong
(like a router adjustment screw) it might prove adequate.

What about the concept of cutting a thread with a rotating bit?

is that he did that just so he could run the lathe at glacial speeds, where he otherwise wouldn't have the torque to take the cut conventionally. With that high helix you'd have to be pretty darned fast to stop a lathe at even 300 rpm. Then again, by the time the motor was up to speed the cut would be complete...
