8208 XBR in the .30X47 HBR?

8208XBR, lot 4736 and lot 4798 work great in 6PPC. Hodgdon please do not change the formula, make more of the same in that burn rate! George

    Your Thoughts on 8208 XBR?

It's been working for me. Using 8208XBR Lot 4798, 6PPC at 31.5gr when the cold, and 31.3gr throughout this summer. Berger 68gr FB touching the lands, amazingly accurate. Krieger 1:14". Not cleaning the gun in a whole yardage (about 60 shots including sighters and warmup). Last year with N133 I...

How much to click scope between 200 and 300 yards?

Joe, At 3400fps it will take 14 or 15 clicks (if scope is 8 clicks = 1MOA) to go from 200Y zero to a 300Y zero. George C.

What's up with Imr 8208 XBR

Grasshopper, For match I meant a 200Y score match (25 shots for record, plus warmup, plus sighters). Typically end up using 60 to 70 rounds in a match, give or take. Please do not extrapolate this to a 2 yardage type of match, which rounds in excess of 100. I have not shot that many in one...

What's up with Imr 8208 XBR

George, Congratulations, good shooting! I have a question, did you clean at any point during the 60 shot match? I am finding the 8208XBR takes a bit to get shooting out of a clean barrel, but once is up and running I can shoot in excess of 50 rounds easily, without seeing any indications of...

    Horizontal problems

Mike, My guess is stock too loose in the front bag. Make sure when the gun is torked the stock won't come too easy off the front bag. George

    The "Horizonal Tune"

That was an excellent post Joe, very descriptive and educational. Thank you, George

    6.5 mm ppc

Larry did a pretty good summary on the 6.5, main problem being bullets, bullets, bullets. These days the way to making your own bullets in 6.5 has been simplified; Berger just released their line of short (0.860") 6.5 jackets, , perfect for this task. What is left is a set of swaging dies and...

    8208XBR - Another data point

Lot number Tom, Lot # 1081309 - 4736 It felt somehow faster -per volume- than N133. It would be nice to have a thread pinned just to keep track of lot # , relative burn rate, etc at least for a while, while the dust settles. George

    8208XBR - Another data point

By now we are getting quite a bit of data on the new 8208XBR powder, so I wanted to pitch in with my experience this weekend when finally made it to the range in a brief 'heat wave'. If only the winter would let go! Chambering = 6PPC Bullet = 68 gr Berger Powder = IMR 8208XBR Barrel = Krieger...

    Ogive Variation?

Lynn, The 6mm comparator will index closer to the shank/bearing surface of the bullet, which has a very very shallow taper, and the reading will be less accurate. If you take it to the limit at an angle = 0+, then the index point is undefined :) I try to keep things simple, maybe too simple...

    Overbore cartridge formula

Water case volume Water case volume is what I used, from different sources; reloading manuals, ammoguide.com, and some of my own measurements, i.e., water weight capacity up to the case mouth. I can understand the rationale of using up to the shoulder-neck junction volume instead, but sorry...

    Overbore cartridge formula

In a chart form A while back I put together this chart, using the same concept of the ratio of case volume / bore area. It is then scaled in reference to the 222Rem, anything over 1 is overbore respect to it.

    .860 6.5 Berger jackets

Ted, You may be aware Berger is already making an 85 grain FB bullet based on the short jackets. Give them a try if you can. With these new jackets my bullets came up on the light side at 78 grains, but they shot not bad, see picture below. At 200Y I did a quick load development on the...

Short jackets in 6.5mm - Available from Berger!

That's awesome Larry. Please keep us posted how it works in your next match. Wish you the best of luck, I am rooting for you. Been having good luck as well with the new jackets, in my 6.5BR. My bullets are forming right at 78 grains, 5 grains lighter than before, due to limited punch sizes in...

Short jackets in 6.5mm - Available from Berger!

Just to inform that Berger has made a run of 6.5mm, 0.860" jackets. Length is ideal for bullet weight in the 80-87gr range. Those of us using 6.5BR or 6.5 Grendel and the like in short range, have now the foundation from which to build high quality flat-base bullets. And no more trimming, Life...

    POI and Tune

Thank you John, that makes sense. I will try to do some more testing at 300Y to prove if I can keep the tune by locking on the point of impact. Will report back with what I find. Thanks again, George

    POI and Tune

Thank you Gerry for your reply. If we could for the sake of a mental experiment, nullify those effects (wind and mirage), but still the impact is high -or low- from a good well known setting, what else is left to make this change in POI? Let's even make it happen not from one day to another, but...

    POI and Tune

Hello, Been thinking and this is always bad. Could POI be used as an indication of tune? Example; if I get a good zero at a given yardage, 200y for instance, in a good cool day, with perfect wind, no mirage, perfect conditions, and the gun was in perfect tune that day, life is good. Next time...

A Synopsis on the Score Discussions.

Maybe a practical compromise ..would be scoring each shot as the average of best and worst edge scoring. A shot well inside the 10 ring is a 10 with either method, so then it is given a 10. A shot inside, but partially out of the 10 ring, it is scored as a 9.5 (10 best edge, 9 worst edge, 9.5...
