    NBRSA and good standing members

Mr. Harris, Unless you are a member at BRRC, you don't have standing to campaign for anything at that club. You are a guest when shooting there. When I call for a ban from "Benchrest", the context is clear, I am referring to BRRC, not the game as a whole. That falls to your comrades and...

    NBRSA and good standing members

Mr. Ellis, Benchrest rescinded a rule several years ago that required all shooters to leave the bench at a cease fire in order to allow cleaning, flag set up and so on as an accommodation to benchrest shooters and their customs or standard practice during a match. The rules are simple in the...

    NBRSA and good standing members

The 60 bench range at BRRC has 14 flashing red lights about sternum high and 16 that are about 7 feet above the ground. There is no excuse for a shot when the range is cold. If a shooter does not know the usual meaning of red lights or flashing red lights, then he ought to ask. Knowing is...

    The God gun......

Wilbur, Read Ray Kurzweil. Try to find much that you would argue with him, and try to imagine the countermeasures that would be required to stop or slow his predictions. Do this early in the day so you have something to reoccupy your mind before you go to bed.

    The God gun......

We use a process that lays down colored parts that look great, but they are fragile and only suitable for simple fit checks that don't require force to assemble and show and tell. The filler is died corn starch.

    The God gun......

We are using a laser in the process for the purpose of refining the surface finish of metallic parts. They are not suitable for surfaces with relative movement without machine work, but they are good enough for functional cosmetics. The materials are just a part of the problem that has to be...

    Need some answers

I ran into the same question last week in regard to rechambering a 16 gauge barrel for a Winchester 97. The barrel had some sort of damage so the mod wasn't going to hurt it if it went south. The owner owns a reamer for a long forcing cone. The most obvious problem is whether a 12 gauge wad...

6 PPC in an AR 15

Shoot good bullets through good barrels for good accuracy. I wouldn't worry much about matching the PPC, its accuracy depends on more than just the cartridge, the whole package has to be considered. Anyway, the 6X45 or 6-.223 has been around a long time. Published load data seems to be...

    Lathes

No matter the hidden qualities of the 14 inch Grizzly gunsmith lathe, the external immediately visible quality is poor. I would be pissed off to order one sight unseen then have that machine show up. The castings, engraved markings, and so on remind me of the early Chinese imports we saw 20...

    Re-barrel .22lr

That's very nice accuracy, but those groups are shot with superior bullets, so I wouldn't extrapolate those results to a .22 LR liner. Still, all the basics apply; shoot good bullets (or .22LR ammunition) through good barrels, one with a great crown, chamber, and uniformity of bore and rifling.

Results of a quick perusal of MMPDS-04 for densities of steels: All of the low carbon steels such as 4130. 4340, 8630, and so on: 0.283 pounds per cubic inch (pci) Custom 450, 455, and 465: 0.28 pci PH13-8Mo: 0.279 pci 15-5PH: 0.283 pci 17-4PH: 0.282 to 0.284 pci depending on the heat treat...

    Calculating barrel weight

Ounces high or low? 0.28 pounds per cubic inch is light for any steel alloy. I would tend to use 0.30 pci in order to be conservative and produce a barrel on the light side. The error caused by ignoring the rifling lands is small, but requires some compensation. If 0.30 pci strikes you as...

I have a question for the owners of Rockwell 11 inch lathes ...

I have one of these new fangled pickups without stake holes in the bed and only two tie down rings near the tail gate. I considered installing a pallet to set the lathe on, then tieing the lathe to the pallet. That will work as long as I don't hit a big pothole. But the trip is 600 miles ...

I have a question for the owners of Rockwell 11 inch lathes ...

Is the reduction drive difficult to disconnect in order to separate the bed and head assembly from the base for moving in a pickup? Is there anything remarkable about separating the bed and cabinet after the redrive is disconnected? What is the width of the cabinet at the floor? What is the...
