we need a humor forum.....until then

A ninety year old man wandered off from the Nursing Home, and found himself in a house of ill repute. Realising where he was, he said to the Madam, "I am 90 years old and I am here to do something I haven't done for 25 years. How much will it cost me?" For you Grandpa it will be 90 bucks...

    Benchmark

We have two versions of Benchmark in Australia (where the stuff is actually made). What you call Benchmark is known as Benchmark Two down under. The usual load for a 22/250 is 33.5 gns under any good 52/53 gn bullet. It is great in a 6PPC, and one of only a few powders that will push a 67gn...

    Congratulations Sir Charles

Let me add my congratulations too Charles. Your smooth shooting style showed the way. It was a great shoot, with something different each day, from good some days to horrible at times during the 200yard event. Throw in a nearby bushfire and that's Australia for you. Brendan Atkinson

    March Scopes keep on winning

I have used a March 40x scope on my number one rifle (BAT DS) for about five years now, and cannot fault it. I must admit that when they first arrived in Australia, I made the statement that it would be a cold day in hell when I paid over three grand for a scope.........er, well...I now own four...

    Bartlein gain twist barrels-what twist?

I was shooting next to Gene at the WBC in South Africa. I noticed that he had a 15 to 14.2 Bartlien barrel, so I ordered one when I got back to Australia. Took about 18 months to get here, but has won me the 200 yard agg in two of the biggest matches over here so far. Yeah....I reckon they are...

    Is benchrest dying?

I started serious benchrest shooting way back in 1976, when we all used .222's and the occasional 6 x 47. Having organised and run five National Championships and a couple of Supershoots, I could put forward a few suggestions on this topic. Every club seems to have a "sparkplug" who organises...

    St. Louis results?

Well done Larry, I think the use of Super Feet may become more and more a requirement of ranges, especially those with new or near new concrete tops. I guess we all got so used to tapping in our stand pegs that we tend to forget that we damage the surface. Some benchtops 'down under' now look...

    Benchrest Scope Question

OK...I used a 45x Leupold for a while, and I had Alan Tucker (at Leupold) fit a 1/16th dot to it. It is a fine scope and now sits on my IRB custom class rimfire. For CF BR I use a March 40x with a 3/32nd dot. We get a lot of mirage in Australia and higher powers can make you struggle a bit. I...

    Preferred reticles for competition

I used fine crosshair for some time, but my eye sight is not good, and I have worn glasses for years. About 20 years ago I had Wally Siebert put dots in my Leupolds and I really believed that it helped. The finer the dot the better I think - my March scopes have the 3/32nd dots, as the 1/8th was...

Why no benchrest in the Olympics??

There are no centrefire rifle events in the Olympics. When you think about it, the only spectator friendly shooting comps are the shotgun - they shoot and the public can see what is happening. In the winter Olympics the Biatholon gets good coverage with TV showing the target discs. The same...

    Water in the bbl

Agree with that. Had it happen a number of times at the Belmont range in Queensland. Group ruined but barrel OK. Brendan

    Vittavouri factory to close

Politicians that tell lies???.....Who would have thought.. We have a bunch of them over here too. I know when they are lying...their lips are moving.

    Vittavouri factory to close

Well, that is interesting news. Having been to a few World Championships representing Australia, I can state that a number of powders can be made to work very well in the PPC cartridge. In South Africa in 2009, we had to use the local stuff (SomChem), and it was both slow and dirty, but some...

    Jean-Louis aka THE PIGMAN

I knew Jean Louis - I shot against him in several World Championships. He was a big jovial Frenchman, and a tough competitor as well. He will be sadly missed. Brendan Atkinson South Australia

    Hodgdon's Extreme H-4198 Powder in the 6PPC?

I loaded next to Jeff Fowler at the 1980 NBRSA Nats at Kelblys, and he was a big fan of IMR 4198. Back in Australia we used around 25 gns of it for years until we got some other powders to play with.

    Alliant RL 10x Powder

I gave it a run in a 21 inch LV barrel. 29 gns seemed to be a sweet spot with a 67gn BT bullet. Velocity was around 3375 which I checked with two chronographs because it seemed a bit high. Accuracy varied a bit....one day a bow tie, and the next a blow fly. Gave up on it, and yes it was dirty...

3 groove barrels in shortrange BR ???

It's ancient history now, but I was fortunate enough to win the Benchrest World Championship in New Zealand in 2001 using a 3 groove Maddco barrel. Neville Madden in Australia made a number of these in 14 and 15 inch twist and they were killer barrels. Yes, they seemed to work better with a bit...

    UKBRA changes the rules

I believe that anything that puts more bums on seats is good for the sport at club level. Got to start somewhere. Of course, if they want to shoot International competition then the common rules apply.
