I wonder if...

Anyone here has some 22 BR grade bullets (50-55 gr) that they either don't use any more or have an excess of and would sell me 50 or 100 to try in my rifle. I prefer something that is currently available so that I can get quantity should my rifle really like them. I'm not looking for a handout, just a small volume purchase to try different bullets so that I can then make an educated quantity purchase. No Bergers please...:D
Thanks in advance
Mark

Coincidentally, just today I loaded some "JC Malsby" 52.5 grain bullets for my .223 AR15. They had been stored for about 25 years. I loaded with the powder I had in the measure....Reloder 15. At the same time I reloaded Sierra's 52 grain HPBT with the same levels of powder...22, 22.5, and 23 grains for comparison. In each case the Malsby's out shot the Sierra's by a significant margin. I don't know if JC Malsby is still making bullets or is even alive. He lived in Kansas City in the early eighties.

I hope you find someone with currently made bullets....everything I've experienced says get the good bullets! They shoot.

Those sound like good bullets. I've got some from the old Walker Machine and tool Co. here in Louisville. They are great bullets and I've got quite a few, they just can't be replaced...
I'm looking for some that I can buy when needed.
I'm shooting SMK 53 gr. now and the are really performing (for me). Last Sunday I shot 5, 5 shot groups that agg'ed .238 with some gusty wind and mirage.
I think this old rifle has plenty left in her, I'd just like to try some custom bullets for comparison.
Thanks
Mark

In a full race BR rifle Nosler BT will shoot some fairly small groups, but not consistantly. They are no different than Sierra, etc "match" bullets. Depends on what you call match. When you get right down to the nitty gritty there is not that much difference between the price of the the "factory" bullets and custom hand made bullets. I have proven this to myself completely. If you want that last bit of accuracy out of your .223 or whatever, you must try some of the custom made, BR, bullets. And don't sell Berger short, they are just as good as any boutique bullet. You see Berger sells the J4 jackets that all custom bullets are made with. Of course they use them too.

Don't know if you found out about the Malsby bullets. JC was my Dad.

Tom

I met Sonny Malsby when I was in the USA back in 1980. At the time he was making some great bullets, and Ron Marsden in Australia was importing them. Shot many good groups with those, and I probably still have some of the empty boxes here in my collection.
