    Help with F/TR Rifle

I started off on a strict budget as well and bought a 2nd hand Rem 700 Police in 308. It has served me well for a few years and I was able to go hunting with it one day, then shoot F class with it the next. Yesterday a freind used it for his 2nd shoot to get a 58 out of 60 (the wind pushed 2...

How much undersize for FLS die reamer

As I have now got some die blanks and I want to use the reamer for roughing out chambers, I will go for a reamer. I will probably go for the measurements you specified. I am hoping to use the brass at least a dozen times, so I didnt want to size it too much, it will be for a target gun, not a...

How much undersize for FLS die reamer

My 284 dies dont fit my chamber very well, not enough sizing on the base and too much around the shoulder, so I am thinking of getting a die made up just for making a FLS die. How much under size do you make reamer widths for a FLS die?

I plan on shooting some "F" class locally this summer

Looks like you have started with all the right sort of hardware and caliber. It should go well if you steer it well AND tune it well. One word of advice though is that F class can be addictive.

    Primers

Jeeze, I wish we could still get the Russian small rifle magnum (or std LR)primers here in Australia. My BRs and PPC loves them, but Ive run out and none more available.

    22br/80 or 90 gr vld for 1k?

A 22BR with 70gn bullets is what I use for 90% of my F class shoting. I had a BRX shooting 90gn ( and even 105gn) bullets and it was good, but barrel was only 20" long so velocity was low. I still occaisionaly use my 22BR with fast twist barrel with 80gn bullets and when it was new, it was...

    Wolf Primers

Another question on the PMC primers. Most of my PMC SRM primers have red coloured primng compound, while the last batch I bought had yellow priming compound. Does anyone know if someone has just put different primers in the PMC box as I bought them at a gunshow, or are some of the small rifle...

    Twist Rate 7mm Berger VLD

Mine was supposed to be a 9" twist but is closer to 10". I checked this after I tried to get 180 Bergers to shoot but they just shot shotgun patters. The 168s go well in the 10" twist though.

Whats makes a good balance beam scale better than bad ones?

After a bad experience with a cheap electronic scale and a general aversion to anything electrical (and it would seem most things electrical seem to have an aversion to me as well), I would prefer to stick to balance beam scales. Now Ive noticed my old Lyman scales bought 2nd hand 15 years ago...

    6x47lapua

I,m quarter way through neck turning 200 6x47 cases and noticed a lot of the case mouths were on an angle or as Alinwa desribed the tecnical terminoligy as Catywumpus, some of the catywumpusness was realy noticable , probably 9/10 on the catywumpus scale. I just hope that the cases which have...

    308 brass preference

I read somewhere that the newer win brass is heavier and less volume than the old stuff. is this right?

How long should barrel bedding block be?

Riflemeister, you bought up a good point about tuning the shorter length. Now with a 30" barrel, I load it to 2820, 2950 or 3080 fps for each of those nodes depending on the caliber. But what about with a bedding blocked rifle? The vibrations still travels the ful 30", but I take it that the...

How long should barrel bedding block be?

I will be getting a barrel bedding block made up to hold 30-32"+ barrels for a 1000yd light gun in 284 Win. How long do you make most barrel bedding blocks, I was thinking around 5" or so is this right?

How important is action with barrel bedding blocked rifle

I might read up on the mounting the scope on the block theory in Harold vaughns book, Good tips. It is the one in 10 or 1 in 20 which can be a pain to diagnose.

How important is action with barrel bedding blocked rifle

Well Ive gone both ways now. I have just bought a Barnard action to use as my 1000yd and fly shoot gun. I will use my Rem 700 action for my F class rifle. I will get the Remington looked over to see if it needs any work, but the bolt has already been sleeved and a tubb firing pin/spring fitted...

How important is action with barrel bedding blocked rifle

The rifle will be for long range F class up to 1200 yds, shooting either a 284 or 7mm SAUM. As I have to wait for the target to be pulled down and put back up again, speed isnt quite as critical, but I certainly wouldnt mind a left (or dual) port, right bolt custom action. Problem is, with the...

How important is action with barrel bedding blocked rifle

I am getting a barrel bedding blocked rifle made up and was hoping to put my Rem 700 action on the back. Now I know the Rem 700 action is not ridgid enough to use with big long barrels without a bedding block, but how does it stack up hanging off the back of a barrel block, just supporting a...

    Season final in Nth Australia!

Letting the woman go first. Jeff and Tony, you are real gentlemen. Nice beach in the photo, but did you need to show a beached whale on it. On the missus orders I will be making a trip back north next year. I will try to time it for an event (F class or 1000yd BR)in Townsville on my way up. I...

Ultrabrite VS multicoat lenses in Gene Davis booster

Has anyone compared the 2 different lense types with the Gene Davis optical booster? I see he is listing a Multicoat long range lense as well as the original ultrabrite lense. Anyone tried each? I use my hunting scope on my F standard rifle, so I think a bit more boost at the range might help.
