Chambering Benchmark 2 groove .22 rimfire barrel?

I just chambered my Benchmark 2-groove a few months ago. I too had questions about how the reamer pilot would stay centered. Turns out it was a non-issue. I just sized my pilot for a good fit on the top of the two lands and went at it. The fact that the barrel is spinning when you ream it...

    Action Tenon Length

I made my barrel tenon length about 1/4" longer than a Remington 700. I've never even touched a rimfire 40X, I certainly didn't copy it's design. The reason for the barrel tenon length is exactly as Kent said. All the European designs are either press-fit barrels or clamp on barrels. All the...

The TRUTH about muzzle devices, tuners and who invnted them...

Just a small correction re: "The device looks similar to a Harrell tuner with an integral venting system and looks like this picture included below." There is no venting or porting on ISSF rifles per rule. Those notches and holes in the Grunig tuner are simply cosmetic. Eric U

    Checking seating pressure.

Just curious... Would there be any difference in "bullet pull" with brass that has been sized and sits two weeks before seating bullets, or ammo that is sized and loaded then waits two weeks before shooting it? Thanks, Eric U

    Flat shooting varment calibre

20 Vartarg with 32 grain ballistic tips would fit the bill. 3800 FPS and deadly accurate. Negligible recoil. Prairie dogs out to 350 are darn near automatic. A fox to 400 should be no problem. Eric U

    Hawkeye Focusing: How Important?

I've had my no-focus Hawkeye borescope for more than a decade and have had zero issues looking at .22-.30 cal barrels. The non-focus is a non-issue. Eric U

    New action design nearly done

Fred, If you only wanted to bed in front of the trigger, the bedding would be just over 2" long on my action. Again, the Anschutz trigger is more than half the length of the action. I've got mine bedded full length and that seems to work well. A bonus with the rear tang screw is more moment...

    New action design nearly done

I guess it's been almost a year since my last update. The good news is I've qualified for the 2012 US Olympic team using my 1st rifle. I've now got my #2 gun working and it seems to be shooting quite well too. The bad news...I really don't have the time right now to work on actions. My...

Looking for a Anschutz 1913 stock.

I am always on the lookout for another 1813 stock. What price? What condition? Thanks, Eric U

    Chucking shorter barrels

I'm chambering my short-ish rimfire barrels through the headstock on my Haas TL-1. What I do is basically use a bloop tube on the muzzle end of the barrel and clamp my spider on it. Normal through-the-headstock chambering and threading after that. When I do the crown, I tighten my spider on...

rumors chinese are buying eley for olympixs

The Chinese have been buying very large volumes of Eley for years. This is nothing new...they've been doing it at least the last 10 years. The Chinese before the 2008 Olympics had also stated that their goal was to use Chinese weapons and ammunition to win all their medals. Because they are...

    My New Barrel Vise

I made my barrel vise a few years ago, but similar to Butch's. Mine is 304 stainless (PITA) and mounts on a very nice stand called the table of my Bridgeport clone. I make split barrel bushings out of 1.5" 6160 bar stock. Mine also has springs in it but can't be seen from the picture. Eric U

    bleiker

No progress on my action at all since the spring. I had a hectic match travel schedule in the spring and summer. During that time I also started making tuner and plain bloop tubes for us iron sight users, as well as sight riser blocks. That kept what little shop time I had moving only toward...

    bleiker

While Bleikers are really taking off in ISSF prone and position shooting, there is only one that I know of in the US and nobody is using it. Part of the problem is that since nobody is using one over here, there aren't parts readily available in case something breaks. That said, I'd say that...

What powder for 20BR with Berger 55gr bullet?

I'm trying to work up a load for a 300m rifle I've got barreled in 20 BR. To get a reasonable performance in the wind but with a bit more than half the recoil of the standard 6BR I've selected the Berger 55 gr BT,. There is little to no load data for this combo. I tried Varget today with no...

    New front locking rimfire action

There is also the Fortner design action in Europe. Anschutz uses it in their biathlon rifles. It has the bolt with the ball-bearings that are pressed outward when closed, acting as front locking lugs...no bolt rotation required. It is a straight pull action. Push forward to close, pull back...

    New front locking rimfire action

I don't think that a rotating bolt face gives an advantage, just no disadvantage...as long as the bolt face is baby bottom smooth. I do think there is something to front lugs though and having a rotating bolt face simplifies life when designing a front lug bolt. Eric U

    New front locking rimfire action

"every top flight rimfire only pushes the bullet without rotating the the face of the bolt" On my competition front-lug rimfire action, the boltface does rotate. I shoot this gun in ISSF competition and don't even think twice about the bullet rotation "issue". I was worried about it when I...
