    Die project

Die alterations Nicely done! I've got a couple of similar projects planned. 1- bore 6.5 Rem Mag die to accept bushings, thread for bushing retainer 2- shorten 358 Winchester die by .365" and ream neck to specific diameter Hoping they turn out 1/2 as good as yours!

is 12 tpi an issue ??

Threading 12 tpi I generally thread upside down and away from the chuck with carbide around 240 rpm. A while back I was threading a Mauser the same way and the lathe wanted no part of that 12 tpi. I have no idea why, same setup as everything else, but it wanted to chatter to no end. Adjusted...

threading away from the shoulder - a tool to consider

Interesting tool. Wouldn't mind trying it in 5/8 shank. I have one of Mesa's 1/2" threading & grooving tools. The inserts are so fragile I quit using it almost right after I bought it, at least for external threading. This one looks much more functional.

Make a 22 BR form die from chamber reamer?

Forming Try it.......I recently used an old 30 caliber barrel turned down, threaded and reamed for 30 br and finally shortened by .085". Worked pretty darn well for forming 6mm Talldog brass. Or get a generic Hornady 22 caliber neck die. I used one of those for forming 6mm br from 7mm br. That...

    Barrel spinner/ polishing aid

spinner dimensions I've been meaning to ask for specific dimensions as well. I have some 3/4" 12L14 that would probably work fine for the centers.

    Cold blue for a barrel

Cold Blue From what limited experience I have it seems like the content of the steel and its finish have a LOT to do with your success. Occasionally I buy a few barrels as a lot and then resell them, mostly Savage's, and one of the things I do is to clean them up as good as I can and then use...

    Aluminum spider plate

Aluminum Spider Plate I picked up a 5" by 2" thick piece of aluminum recently so I could build a spider plate. Will probably start on it in the next couple of weeks. Very curious how it will turn out. Best of luck on your search sir!!

    Bushing Die Conversions

Justin, I'm glad you brought this up as I've been thinking about it for a couple of weeks....has to be winter boredom! I bought a couple of "scrap" dies just for this purpose. I'm sure one of the more experienced members will chime in and say "your're wasting your time", "just buy a bushing...

    Wilson seating die problem

I recently purchased a Wilson 223 neck die and seating die from a guy at the gun show. The neck die was perfect and came with a bushing.......however the seating stem was so stuck I had to manufacture a punch and hammer the thing out, we're not talking little love taps either. I soaked it before...

an open message on the real cost of the national debt....

Debt & Deficit I work with a "progressive" liberal, we have discussions every day about the size and scope of government and how it should/or shouldn't be involved in peoples lives. Essentially from talking to this person (who in seeming every other way is a really good guy) he is willing to...

Has anyone checked on this? I've been thinking about a sizing die reamer anyhow so this would be a pretty smokin deal!!

    sleeve a barrel shank?

Ok, I had to re-register just so I could respond to this thread. One caveat to my statements....I'm a complete amateur, have little gunsmith experience and am in no way an engineer. I honestly don't how much of what I'm saying is realistic nor if the terms I am using are 100% correct. But I'm...
