    12L14 Holee Kowww

Talley makes their bolt handles out of 12L14. I have welded quite a few of those up on Mausers. It welds great for me. Bill Jacobs

Don't remove all the tension. The extractor should "bend" outward about 0.004 inches when it grips a case rim. Bill Jacobs

Check this out for barrel work

Quite right, and my statement was confusing. I don't use a taper attachment to taper barrels very often -- darn seldom, in fact! I do use it to taper muzzle brakes, make tools for ironing dents out of shotgun barrels, etc. My machine, a South Bend 13" was a school machine in its former life:)...

Check this out for barrel work

That's a pretty machine, but............. The bed is too short to work between centers, there is no steady rest, and there is no mention of a taper attachment. I wouldn't be able to use it for barrel work in my shop. Bill Jacobs

Looking for me a good Lathe

The fellow I bought my lathe from (South Bend 13) has a couple of late South Bend 13 inch machines for sale. One has a threaded spindle, the other a D1-4, and both have Flame Hardened ways. PM me for contact info. The lathes are located in North Georgia. Bill Jacobs

    South Bend Heavy 10

This is opinion, so take it for exactly what it is........ Motor oil is formulated for motors. Motors see high temperatures with extreme swings. Motors need detergents in their oils to be certain that carbon and other products of combustion are flushed from the motors. The South Bend lathe...

    South Bend Heavy 10

ISO 10 Spindle Oil. Get as little as you can. The South Bend recirculates oil, and if it is in good condition, you will rarely need to add oil to the spindle cups. I have had a 13" for ten years, and I have never needed to add oil. ISO 46 Medium Hydraulic Oil for the bushing and gear Oilers...

    5-C collet chuck

Collet Chucks are a great convenience, but I have found that some do not fit common 5C collets very well. The chucks that shipped with our Grizzley lathes (US made chucks -- not Chinese) did not fit Hardinge, Royal, South Bend or other US made collets consistently. They do fit the import 5C...
