    6.5 x 55 swedish project

I`d go with the 1/8 twist. I`ve a 260 that has 1/9" twist and have a little trouble with 142 gr Sierras. I don`t see any difference in velocity with equal lgt barrels and pressures between the Swede and 260 so I suspect the swede will act the same. JMO Regular constructed 140s and down will do...

    Bullet Velocity

Hmmmm, The bullet having a bit of freebore allows it to engrave with the rifleing easier which reduces pressure some. Added case volume will lower pressure The bullet up against the lands will require more pressure to engrave the bullet and get moving. Neck tension from what I`ve been lead...

Small Mag Primers in a 223

Speer recommends their use with ball powder. I`d drop a grain and see how your load reacts if you have a near max load already that you plan on sub`ing them in.

How can throat wear be predicted?

From what I`ve been led to believe it is a combination of heat and pressure that destroys a throat not the bullet passage. Wear is a small factore where the real damage is from high pressure gas erosion.

    Ogive Bullet Measurements ?

One thing I haven`t seen mentioned as a possible cause of the OPs COL variance is the type of tip on the bullet. I`ve found in 2 different caliber seaters, both RCBS that some plastic tipped bullets will bottom out in the seating cup. There is just enough variation in the ogive up by the tips...

Not to Hi-jack the HR45 thread........!

This has existed in subcommitee but never voted on since 2007. The bill was reintroduced Jan of 2009 as Record of Sales act 2009 http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/blairholt.asp

    IMR 4007 SSC in a .308?

+1 It`s a real sleeper in the 708 IMO. I`ve been useing it in mine since it hit the shelves and getting great velocities and exceptional accuracy with most bullet wgts. This is strickly a hunting rifle, I don`t have a clue as to it in a 308 target rifle, but believe it should be worth a good look..

    Ogive Bullet Measurements ?

Are your primers fully seated? The Stoney Point in my limited experiance usually shows my lgt to the ogive with hunting and most match (Sierra, Nosler, ect) to be within a couple thousanths at the most. A slightly high primer will skew things.

    270 win

Nosler recommends seating to a lenght that works best in your rifle and is at or under SAAMI max (3.34") I believe Nosler developes all data in their book at SAAMI max and then tells readers to adjust to fit their chamber. I do know they develope in SAAMI spec test BBls with a universal...

    260AI versus 260?

I measured the H2O capasity of both the 260 Rem and 6.5x55 for a thread on another forum a little while ago and came up with 55.0gr for the 260 and 58.4gr for the Swede. Both were the average of 2 new cases with spent primers seated primers and filled to the case mouths. ~2.5 gr water isn`t...

One day load is fine, next day the bolt needs to be beat to extract

Thanks for the correction, that`s what I meant to say, I use both. I should have proofed my post before entering...:o

One day load is fine, next day the bolt needs to be beat to extract

I doubt ambient temp was the problem, 60* F to shirt sleeve weather isn`t much change. I think the load is just too much, and it took a couple shots fired to show. Hodgdon lists 36.5 gr of IMR4007 with a 70 gr bullet. Your load is about 10% heavier with a bullet almost 10% heavier. I don`t...

    barrel length vs pressure

Pressure peaks in the 1st couple inches of the barrel and drops rather fast as bullet moves down the bore opening up more space for the gases to fill. You will have, theoriticaly, the same peak pressure in a 5" barrel as a 30" all else being equal. The slower burning powders are still adding gas...

Wanting to Upgrade Reloading Press for Live Varmint Rifles

The Co-Ax is IMO a great up-grade and my favorite, but I honestly think you can get great service from the flagship presses RCBS, Redding, Hornady or Lyman offer.

    Hand gun

Std primers should work for both. Look at Unique for a powder choice.

    7mm-08 Powders

IMR4007ssc or Varget as a more distant 2nd choice.
