Wind speed meter

I am not looking to spend a lot but I dont want to waste money either.
Does anyone know about Caldwell Wind Speed Measure Meter Wizard 112-350.
Any other good suggestions in a low price range?

If you want cheap, get the wind meter from Sinclair. Venturi tube w/ a ball in it and a scale to read. If you want accurate, quit being cheap and buy a Kestrel. Will last a lifetime+, and they warrant their equipment for life. And even their cheapest instrumental has more data on it than most shooters need. Spend it once, cry once. Buy cheap, cry forever

I wont mind spending the money once I find out if its going to do what I want. In the same token I dont need it to do but one thing and thats tell me the wind speed at my bench.
Also I used the "Venturi" to search Sinclair and they dont show anything with that name. I searched wind also and didnt see anything like you described.
Thanks

OK. Just checked their website as well. Guess they decided it was too simple. I'll sell mine for ???? and good graces. Haven't used it for at least 10 years now. The actual speed, MPH, doesn't mean squat. Need to test every day and shoot based on what you JUST tested. the factual speed is not significant when you are shooting. Unless you have a data base a hell of a lot larger than mine to draw on. And, FYI, it will most likely still be inaccurate. Shoot the sighter and decide from there

David as you said you havent used yours in 10 years. Thats why I dont see spending a lot for one right now.
If it does reasonably well I may grab a better one. If I find that regardless of quality the data that it provides is useless to me then I have spent more money than necessary just to have it sitting in the drawer.

AS far as shooting the sighter thats all fine well and good in reasonably stable changing conditions.
However when you happen to be shooting on a field that does not have any condition that stays reasonably stable for more than a couple of seconds shooting the sighter becomes almost a moot point because by the time I get back to the record target the conditions have changed again.
But that is not really what I am trying to do anyway its another aspect of wind effect on the bullet I have noticed but have not seen stated anywhere as yet. So I want to explore it for myself and see if I can find any validity in it for my own use.

But thanks for the info.

Two things Vern, Beggs Windprobes and a Joystick rest. Forgetabout a windmeeter.

I have the joy stick and I have used wind probes it wont do what I am looking at but thanks

Vern for what it is worth someone posted information one time that I found useful. It was in regard to the amount of angle formed by the tail to the wind flag. For example straight down was 0 MPH and 1ft away from the vertical or what ever the angle is was
1 MPH. So on and so forth. A lot has to do with the length of the tail and the material of the tail. Your own secrete code.:)
It is cost effective and if you can get mph from something you can do the testing in your basement with a fan and your tailed wind flag.
Hope this helps,
Centerfire

Thats a neat idea centerfire thanks.
Not what I had in mind for the wind meter but I will ALSO give that some thought as to comparing push to my tails.
I am not really worried about mph as much as I am consistency.

Just thinking out loud. I am just starting out in F-Class. Our 600, 700, 800, 900 and 1,000 yard can have BIG wind. And it's pretty consistent in vector, and somewhat consistent in velocity. But yeah, it comes and goes. So I understand the comments above, mostly. It seems to me one would be well served by, first verify a clear, unoccupied course, then walk the range past the rows of flags with the anemometer. Make a mental or a recorded observation of recorded wind velocity and flag position. Also, not the duration of the mini gusts or pulses of wind. Saying the wind velocity (edit: measuring) doesn't mean anything doesn't mean anything to me. I know the intent is that just taking a reading at one point in time at the bench won't be accurate for the variation down range, but you need some idea of velocity. Is it 4, 8 or 12 mph ? Don't you guys calibrate your senses with the readings and target results ?? - Thanks

Vern: We need to get together. I have a whole lot of stuff the will assist you in reading the wind. I just don't need it any more.

Good talking to you Fred. See you soon

Guys part of the real reason I am getting a wind meter is I am going to do some experiments and I need to know exactly what the wind is at the bench at all times.
Ill go into it in more detail after I have had a chance to try it out.
My main question was to see if there was anything good or bad about the meter in question. I dont need one YET that has anything but the wind speed and it really isnt the actual speed I am after but the consistency in push.

How sensitive are 133 loads to temperature humidity altitude when you travel around to different states at different times of the year ? Thanks Max

Max I dont travel around to different states at different times of the year at least not for some time to come.
So I dont really know at this point.
Thats why I am not yet interested in one of the meters with all of the other bells and whistles.

Ive got aVenturi Tube I wont go that route its not accurate at all if the wind is Reilly blowing. The other kind work a lot better . Good Luck Max
