Tuner adjustment during match

Rob

If you are speaking of NBRSA Rules, the answer is yes.
Here is the procedure as spelled out by the rule. Remove the bolt from Rifle. You can then slide the Rifle back as far as you wish in order to access the tuner. You are not supposed to stand up. Place Rifle back in bags, insert bolt, and continue.
As you will notice, the important consideration is to be sure and remove the bolt.
I do this all of the time, it is no big deal. As always, a little courtesy toward your fellow shooters goes a long way.

By the way, Rob, what kind of tuner are you using??........jackie

Beggs

Hi Jackie,

I have a Beggs unit that I just fitted this week, only shot it once.

I am at the airport on the way to our Nationals, will let you know how it goes!

The rule here is that we are not allowed to adjust during the period "commence fire" to "cease fire". This needs to be changed to mirror your rule.

I was under the impression that you shot under NBRSA Rules, except for that Sporter thing. I guess I was wrong.......jackie

Wish we did
No, we have our own set of rules, but they are pretty much the same as yours.

Don't know that the NBRSA rule would work given we allow people to stand up, leave the bench etc and change rifles if a failure occurs.

Our Australian rules works pretty well because we took the best of the NBRSA rules and improved on them eg a real sporter weight rifle and we never were caught up in the silly barrel taper rule (IMO). There are plenty of Aussie shooters that will never understand why the taper rule exists other than to allow barrel makers to reclaim off centre drilled barrels.
We also don't have the rule about the drop of the stock heel (the 4 inch rule). An illogical rule because I have read many times on this forum how it has never been checked at a match. Though I also have to say that any stockmakers who produces a varmint stock in Australia makes them to comply with that rule just in case the competitor makes it into the WBC though that still doesn't make it a sensible rules.

Rob you know what chance you have off converting to that rule in Oz!

Good luck in WA

You may be surprised Alex!

(First, for the record, Alex has been a shooting buddy of mine for 25 years!)

Alex, I totally agree with your thoughts. I am glad we dont have to try and measure barrel tapers! But I once did have my stock measured, at the WBC in Finland in 1993. Yep, our sporter makes sense compared to others.....

Now on to tuners.

Our annual national benchrest meeting was held this afternoon, and I presented to the meeting that we change this rule to fit in with the NBRSA rule.

Delegates agreed with the proposal, I just need to present the NBRSA wording. It was deemed to be no more unsafe then a competitor having to eject cases with a cleaning rod, which happens quite often.

I hope to get this fixed before HV on monday because I plan on twiddling my tuner if necessary!

Rob.

For what it is worth, I have been using, and adjusting, my tuner in Competition for over two years, and nobody yet has stood up and screamed, "I can't shoot with all of this disruption".
You can hope that simple logic will prevail, as it did in the NBRSA........jackie

If a shooter is disturbed by a neighbor, that shooter isn't watching their wind flags closely enough. If one is focused properly on what is in front of them, it takes a pretty big distracton to affect one's shooting.
