Tucker Conversion???

I have seen several used Leupold scopes with the "Tucker Conversion" for sale in various places. What exactly does that mean and is it desired for 100-200 BR?

thanks for your input, tiny

I am not so sure they don't void warranty

This conversion does not void your Leupold guarantee.
I sent you a picture. Check your e-mail and yes, it is desired for 100-200-300BR

I wish this were true but recent developments at Leupold seem to be all over the place. I have even heard it said you will get your scope back but not with the conversion I have also heard you should send to Tucker and have conversion removed before you send to Leupold. I do not know what the actual status is at this point. I do know un modified scopes seem to bring more money even though in my experience Tuckerized scopes are better.

Leupold has gone back and forth on this through the years, there was a time if you sent one in with a Tucker, or some other modification to the tube, they would send it back with a new tube, minus the conversion.
Then, they would do warranty work no matter what, (back in the nineties, I sent one back with a Tucker, it had a broke reticle, and they fixed it for free).
I am sure they will work on the scope, and fix what has to be done, for a fee. That would seem fair enough.........jackie

Had a focus problem with my Leupold, called them, and they denied a warranty claim with the Tucker conversion.

I can tell you who "not to contact" at leupold on this matter.

FBecigneul -post the name of your contact at leupold with who you discussed this subject. This was not the company policy a year ago.

The subject comes up often on the Centerfire Benchrest forum and leupold never responds on here directly -nuff said!

Someone from leupold respond here in the past, I'm sure of it. P

Posi-Lock

I made a posi-lock for mine kinda like the Burris. It can be quickly snugged with fingers, not a key or screwdriver. It never moves under 30 cal. recoil. Photos attached.

Very nice job, really like the quality knob. Did you "round" off the sharp square corners on your scope rings?

The Tucker Conversion

With all due respect to Francis, Leupold has gone back and forth on this.
About five years ago, a friend sent a Leupold that had a Tucker Conversion to Leupold for a problem, when he got it back, it had a new tube, without the Tucker spring plunger.
Actually, the spring that Cecil places on the side instead of the arch spring that Leupold uses, is not the big improvement. The real fix to the Tucker is the O-Ring that he installs around the major diameter of the erector tube's pivot. This tends to stabilize the erector tube in case that joint becomes unloaded during recoil. That has always been the major flaw with the basic 36X design.
Cecil even told me once that he had thought about not doing the spring, but shooters had come to recognize that as the visual evidence of the conversion. It sure doesn't hurt anything.
It is good to hear that Leupold will now fix things that have nothing to do with an "aftermarket" modification. But even at that, their labor and parts rates for non warranty work seem to ber pretty reasonable.
I wonder what they would do if I sent one of my "frozen" scopes to get a lens or reticle replaced?? Probably send me a letter that said, "YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING".........jackie

Jackie

I have a Leupold 36x that was returned to me from Leupold with a note enclosed with the following:
"We have made a business decision to refuse to work on the Leupolds modified by Premier Reticles. We apologize for this inconveinience".

This was modified a number of years ago. I wanted the lenses cleaned inside. I received an email from them prior to them returning the scope.
I had to pay the return shipping.

Not taking the chance

Well,

I guess I am not willing to take the chance on a scope that wouldn't be covered by the warranty. I guess I need to keep saving the pennies.

Thanks for the discussion, tiny

They will work on it for a price.........jackie

Understood. I guess if I find the right deal, it wouldn't stop me from buying one. How big is the difference in optic clairty between the older Leupold 36x and the newer Competition models or the NightForce? The March is just out of my budget for an entry level rifle. I actually would like to share the same scope for an FClass gun, but I know it is hard to get one reticle to do both.

Thanks again, tiny
