To be fair to Mr. Boyer, with a niche book like this, there is no scale to take advantage of. In other words, he's buying shipping materials in low volume, and may well be boxing them up and sending them himself. You wouldn't want to roll shipping costs into the book price because I would assume he wants the book distributed elsewhere (some place like Brownells or Midway), and they may have lower shipping costs.

I think that UPS gives discounts to higher volume dealers. I've received packages with lower shipping charges than expected considering weight and distance. I believe most dealers pass on the discounts to their customers but some do not. The problem with dealers who don't pass on the discounts is not knowing the shipping charges before the items are shipped and the costs are charged to your credit card. Caveat Emptor.

I bought a hard copy and soft copy a long time ago. I don't remember the shipping being too high. I'll bet they ship just a very few a week. Personally I am 25 miles from the post office and diesel is $3.60 a gallon. I do ship daily at a set shipping price even if I have a $30. product. You have to balance it all out.
