I lap and then clean thoroughly, and do not use anything between scope and rings. I have mounted scopes on rifles up to .338 Lapua that did not move as long as the cap screws stayed tight. For those applications I used a little of the weakest thread locker on the cap screws. I have had exactly one scope move since I started lapping rings, and it was because the cap screws loosened.

Hi Al

I was wondering from whom, or from where you get the sleeves ? Are they a drop it in and tighten it up proposition with Kelbly rings, or is there fitting required ?

Thanks
Robert

I wanted to add that for those that get all sqeemish about bedding scope rings:

I've used Delrin 30mm to 1" sleeves and they give almost as much contact as a bedded set of rings. If you're buying new rings and are using a 1" scope, get 30mm rings and the sleeves. Then you have some options. -Al

Robert, I've used both of these:

http://www.brownells.com/optics-mou...ucers/delrin-reg-ring-reducers-prod18588.aspx

I like the flange on one side that butts up against the ring. The SWFA's are .625 wide. Other than narrowing them for asthetics (depends on the ring), I just chamfer the inside edges of the parting lines, drop 'em in and snug the screws up with a bit of light machine oil on the threads. The Brownells were a bit wider and fit the double screw Kelbly rings nicely. I don't see a width spec'd on their site, though.

Air rifles use these reducers, as well. They beat the beejeezus out of scopes, mounts and rings due to the reverse recoil on the springer types. eBay has lots.

Hope this helps. :) -Al

Thanks Al

I was getting ready to buy a new pair of 1'' Kelbly rings for a Teddy I recently acquired, this will be a so much better option, plus no ring marks on my scope. I used Burris Signature rings on my 40X to keep that from happening before, thanks a million for a great tip.

With properly lapped rings, that have been properly cleaned after, and had all of the parting line edges and corners worked over so that they cannot bite into the scope finish, I do not get ring marks. The key is attention to detail.

Hi Boyd

I appreciate the advice.
