Some neat benchrest history....

Here's a 1st Edition "The Ultimate In Rifle Precision" from 1951 (these were produced as annuals between 1949 and 1954). The Sportman's Press, Washington DC, published them and Townsend Whelen did much of the editing.

Col. Whelen presented it to H.L. Culver in '51 and Homer gave it to my dad shortly before his death. Culver hand signed the cover but unfortunately Whelen didn't autograph it.

However it was signed by many of the founders of benchrest. Warren Page, Harvey Donaldson, Al Marciante, Gene Hudgins, GR Douglas, and RK Nelson to name a few. Culver was part of that elite group that laid the groundwork for precision shooting.

Nicely done! As a very small time book collector I appreciate what you've got there... I've got a signed Ruark, a signed Louis L Amour and the absolute last 'Marine Sniper' that Carlos Hathcock signed on his death bed but nothing like that!

Beauteous hunk of history, congratulations

Below G.R. Douglas is Phil Teachout, whom was the first editor of Precision Shooting, I believe.

Looking at their signatures, you can tell that was back in a time when penmanship mattered...

That is really cool!
