Sassuolo, Italy, metric record @ 100m HV



I was privileged to watch the last 2 shots not enlarging the tiny hole at 100m in the HV match on Saturday the 14th of May. I was sitting next to Giorgio Da Pian and had completed my firing early. I scanned left and thought, he'd better hurry or he's going to run out of time: there was just one hole in his target; then scanned right. When the 30 seconds warning was called I was back on his target but couldn't see anything different when the shot rang out. Maybe he was shooting in the sighter. I heard the 5 seconds warning, a pause, then "bang!" And the tiny hole went bright for a split second.
I couldn't believe it. When the target was posted with a 1.06 mm (0.0382MOA), I told him he had a possible world record in metric as the current one was held by JC Braconi with a 1.27 mm (0.0457MOA). The procedure to confirm the record is proceding but I can tell you he was breathing hard when he stood up after firing his last shot in the last 3 seconds of the match.

I think it was a 6mm rifle, and, yes, there was a scope on it: easy with a scope!

Our friend Carlos Pacheco replied the following when i annouced on our Benchrest France group on Facebook this very good group shot in Sassuolo :

"Sanctioned/ homologated by whom?
Yours trully still has the 100 meter NBRSA world record homologated by NBRSA comitee at....0,91mm or 0,036" shot in the NBRSA European Nationals in Souppes in 1997."

So it seems Carlos still holds the current metric world record for a single groupe at 100 m .

By the way , his question is very pertinent , don't you think ?

No, the Sassuolo match was not NBRSA registered. I didn't invoque NBRSA in my post and if you read carefully what I posted:
" I told him he had a possible world record in metric" and "The procedure to confirm the record is proceding ". I was aware that Carlos holds the LV:
Light Varmint 100m.

As far as I know, the President of the club has checked what were the procedure to follow and is doing so.

Most Match Directors know the procedure, it is laid out in both The NBRSA and IBS Rule Books.

The moving backer and the targets must go through all of the proper procedures demanded by the Rules.

The fact that the Match was not "registered" makes all of this a moot point.

my guess is that a match in italy can request form the top sports org in italy to verify the target, then do the same in europe.
while ibs/nbrsa are top in usa via a master org in the usa they are not the one and only's.

As long as they have the same strict protocol as do the IBS and NBRSA, there would certainly be no complaints from me, or anyone else for that matter.

Actually, I haven't been able to find in the NBRSA a reference to records in metric. In the IBS, I found: HV 100 Meters 0.061 Allie Euber 9/6/81 I assume the "0.061" is in MOA, or inches.
I'd welcome a link to the NBRSA metric records.
If I may elaborate on 'other groups and organizations", that is quite true. Hence my deep surprise at the reaction of my esteemed fellow shooters at my post, when the eurobenchrestnews site is our first source of information for metric records, at least in Europe. I totally agree with Jackie Schmidt: as long as the strict protocol is followed...
