Sako Scope Rings

Al, I'm not really sure......

.....what they actually sell for, but I've seen them advertised for 900 to 1600 bucks.

If anyone's interested, I've a factory takeoff Sako 6PPC barrel I'd sell.

I'm still a little partial to the L461 action though. Here's a pic of one of my older ones. It's an O'Brien 17MachIV.

Like that TV GUY says for the......

eyewash: "WWWOOOOOOOWWWWWW" .........do I LIKE THAT!!!!!!
Al, that is a NICE looking rifle!!! Kevin, that old O'Brien is superb, I always wanted one, (actually two!!) in MACH IV & one in 17 Magnum Thanks a bunch for that photo, I'd seen them in magazine ads, but they NEVER did it justice like your pic; that's the closest I've been to a real one, and, I always knew they were really special, but that shows me what I was missing!! Thanks again.

Kevin, I just re-read....

your post #58, I have a 461 single-shot that's got the tapered sleeve like Al's and the forward screw hole goes all the way through the threads inside, says L461 on the side, was gotten around '82-'83.

Brian......

For lack of a better explaination, I feel that Sako made many "transition" (from Garcia to Stoeger) small actions in the early 80's. Many Sako fans will also say that the blued finish on these particular actions was not up-to-snuff.

Anyway, during this time it appears that the small action being produced was identical to the later AI action......yet was stamped L461......bluing problems not withstanding.

Hope this helps.

P.S. You did mention an O'Brien 17 Magnum.....here's one of mine.

Yep....I guess so....

....but I've been messing with the 17's for a long time.

Kevin

P.S. Here's some metalwork on another O'Brien 17 Magnum.

That is....

another looker, Kevin!! I only started w/the .17 in '84 w/a 700 & after Rem rebarreling it, it tended to be erratic in delivery. I've been wanting to rebarrel it again, then selling it w/the new barrel, & going the lighter route, possibly w/the SAKO ss, w/a 24" tube. That big, '06 size bolt in the little 17 just irritates me, like jungle rot, every time I pick it up. The biggest problem I had was w/the inaccuracy of the reloading dies, then when I got that calmed down at least, I realized I was hampered w/the die quality & barrel quality, & needed to step UP. So, I finally decided there was just too much to cure there for my taste. When it was shooting well, it was great, now, with new techniques & cleaning agents, dies, I think I've got a better opportunity to have a greater degree of success in a better-proportioned platform. I really want to thank you for the photos, Kevin, I have to say, it was a real treat!!

I used the L691 series for many years as the base for my custom rifles and the only thing I didn't like was there rings. At one time I had 40 actions in the white in the shop, wish I had held on to several of them for myself now. The new line of Sako can not even remotely compare to the older ones. Even then parts were few and far between but know thew are nearly non existent.

Brian.........

The small/sub-caliber site is saubier.com. You'll find more information, than you thought possible, there. Tell'em I sent ya!

BTW......many, on this site, will know THIS gentleman....who also liked 17's.

where did you....

Find THAT???? I never Knew he was into firearms at ALL, let alone 17s. Who's the guy on the right, do you know????

Brian.......

I've been fortunate to have collected many items related to the O'Brien Rifle Company, and Vern O'Brien, over the years.

The man on the right, in the pic, is Vern O'brien's brother, Mickey. The photo was probably taken at the Golden Nugget Casino.

Kevin

Here's a pic of the O'Brien Rifle Co. safari wagon.

Man! You make me feel young again!

The places I used to go in my VW 1600 Type 3 Variant, set up with Hijacker shocks on each corner so I could boost it up when the ground seemed closer. I even managed to get thru a couple of places that stopped the 4WDs. :p
