The 2010 River Bend Shooter of the Year trophy has been awarded to Wayne Hunt. Wayne won Production class in every match this season, except for one where he finished second. Wayne shoots a Savage LRPV in 6 Norma BR, the rifle is pretty much stock, out of the box. Congratulation Wayne on a fine season of shooting.

This award was presented this past Saturday after our last match of the season. Of course Wayne won Production class. BR class was won by Bill Dittman, second was won by Jim Andress who shot a 250-25x at 100 yards shooting his 30 Ergle.

Congratulations Wayne!

See everyone again in March.

That was a nice touch:

Awarding SOY to the Production Class shooter. I'm wondering what a 30 Ergle is?

Thanks,

Pete

No, production class and factory class are the same thing. You can change the trigger, bed the action, and a few other mods but basically stock parts. Wayne's gun has nothing - not even bedded.

SOY for our club is based on points (4 for 1st place,3 for second place etc.) This year we decided to include all the classes.

Next year we may award SOY to each class. Mainly because I know I cannot beat Wayne in his own class - heck, usually i worry about beating him with my custom. (I actually didn't at least once this year). Believe me - this award to Wayne was not a "gimme". I tried the next best thing which was to buy the rifle from Wayne - of course he won't sell it.

Wayne can shoot - his scores are usually pretty close to full out custom BR standards.

Congratualtions to all, especially Jim with the 25x count.

Now, what is a 30 Ergle?.........jackie

The Ergle is a 30 Major(Grendel necked to 30). James Ergle called me up one day and asked me how I was liking the 30 Major. I spec'd the reamer for him and he gave it a name he was proud of:)

-Congrats and good shooting to the winners and way to go Jim, with a fine 250-25x!

I want to add my congratulations to Wayne, who has forever raised the bar for production class shooting at River Bend.

I also want to congratulate Jim on his 25X. In nine years of shooting at River Bend, he and Bill Dittman are the only people I can remember who have done that.

While on the subject of Jim's feat I would like to add something that helps explain why I like the sport of benchrest and being able to do it with the people at River Bend.

On the last target Jim had one shot that he claimed was not an X. Scott Dittman, our scorer, used the reticle and ruled it an X. Jim continued to insist it was not. Then I looked at and said it was an X. Jim continued to insist it was not. We finally just had to tell him it was indeed an X and we weren't to going to score it differently.

Congrats to all the shooters and Thank you to those who run those matches. Any pictures? I recognize a lot of the names from the Postal and also in Precision Shooter Mag, but would like to put a face to some of the names. Have a great winter.

Billy Stevens is the one that named the 6.5 Grendel necked up to 30 cal. the “30 Eargle”. Mike Ezell shared a lot of information with me and I really appreciate that. I’ve never met Mike in person but I can tell you Mike was always willing to share his data with me. I’ve known Billy for a lot of years now and he has built many Benchrest rifles for me and the 30 Eargle is like all his work . . . first class. James L Eargle

Hello James, I thought you told me you named it. No biggie anyway as long as it shoots well for ya. I knew you had Billy chamber it up. Hope it's still all you had hoped for. I'm sure he did a great job for you.--Mike

Hey Mike, actually Billy named it after my name. As far as I know it’s real close to the 30 Major if not a clone. Anyway it has been a pleasure to shoot as you well know. I’d like to see more people give the 30 Major or Eargle a try. I don’t think they would be disappointed in either case.
Now if this Alabama weather would cooperate, I’ll get back at it and again, thanks for all of your help. James
