Rifle blowup, wrong ammo,

Jay,
Is this how it really happened? Did he hammer the bolt closed? I personally witnessed a similar thing on 2 occaisions and it didn't hurt anything. I wouldn't recommend it though.

I recall reading a decade or three ago about a .308 round fired in a .270 chamber. The comment made at that time was that the round was close to a snug fit chambering as the .30 cal ogive sat neatly into the longer case's shoulder.

I guess a .25-'06 isn't be all that different dimensionally.

Butch,

I was sent the link and read most of the thread. That is all that I know about the incident. I think that a 308 will get snug in an '06 chamber due to the case profiles being different. Easy to determine with a caliper and a few cases.

A minimum 308 case will go in a maximum 06 chamber.

A maximum 308 case will not go in a minimum 06 chamber.

... and in a factory 700 would probably not blow up... :D

I saw a Husqvarna 270 Win. blown all to pieces by firing a 30-30 Win. in it.

We had the same thing happen at our main range many years ago - a factory 308 fired in a 25/06. The bullet almost made it to the muzzle, but the action was wrecked - we kept the remains in our canteen on display to show people what can happen. The shooter received cuts and a very bad flinch after that.

Yeah, I'd like to know how they got the bolt closed on that one??

Blow Up

At the Carters Country Store and Range in North Houston, they have a Rifle hanging on the wall that is blown all to pieces, if I am not mistaken, it also had a 308 mistakenly chambered into a 25-06......,jackie

.308 in .270

A guy in our town fired three .308's in a .270 or a .30-06? I know it was a 700---he took all three cases to my friend to ask what was wrong with the ammo my friend sold him!!!!! My friend has the cases, and the dummy who fired them "works" for Obama as a 2nd amendment advisor/consultant.

A good freind of the family fired a 308 in a 270 and had to wear glasses for a year due to a badly burned eye.I asked him about it and he said when you were a kid did you ever look at the sun.I said yes and he told me to multiply that 1000 times.
My father shot a 243 in his 30-06 when we had too many types of ammo on the bench one day.It only went 75 yards before the bullet started bouncing down range and it was whirring the whole way.Split the neck open on the brass.
