Remington Receiver Hardness (Chrome-moly)

From the various threads I have read online I've seen estimates from 28-44 Rockwell, which is quite the spread... I imagine it's near the middle of that range obviously.

Anybody able to narrow that down a bit?

Also, any idea if Remington has changed the steel/hardness for current production actions? (the ones with the bar code).

Can't say about the new ones but I believe you will find most of the older actions between 34 & 36 RC.

I agree with Gary.

I helped a friend redrill a relative new one for 8-40 screws, and it drilled and tapped like any of the older ones I have performed various Machining Operations on.
