Remington 721

I agree about the 721/722's. I have two 722's, one a .257 Roberts the other a .308. The .308 was $300 with a nice lyman 3X. Will be interested in Jackies report on action trueness, etc.

A 700 trigger will fit, but the bolt release spring is different. It's a coil fit into a whole under the bolt release, rather than one hung on the trigger pin in the 700. I rebarreled a 721 to 25-06 with a shilen bank, put on a shilen trigger & an HS stock. Shoot very well. The 721/722's seem to go (around here) for just what you paid & are a better deal than 700's.

Ron

Jackie, I would highly recommend not using a Sako extractor. Ask Pat Byrne what can happen. Maybe a M16 extractor if you insist on changing.

Jackie is well aware of the dangers in the "Sako" conversion that has been done in the past. It's a terrible thing to do to a Remington bolt. I doubt he will do that. The existing extractor has been good for 60 years... it will probably be good for another 60 years...

If you look around you can find extractors...I did. It's there as a spare and both my 722's have never been a problem with extractors. --Greg

If you ever have a catastrophic case failure is when the problem begins because with the alteration to the 700 series bolt you have reduced what was the safest 2 lug bolt action made to something quite unsafe when a case fails.
