We are proposing that membership dues be collected on an annual basis for $25.00 per year. The membership dues will cover shooting at sanctioned matches, fees to the WRABF, any organization donations and the web site. All opinions and input are welcome.

Steve,
There is precedent for charging to sanction a club, but if I'm not mistaken all of the rimfire organizations have dropped the practice of charging individual members a membership fee. IR50/50, RBA and ARA all charge $20 to sanction a club(or used to when I was running matches under those orgs), usually paid when the Match Director sends in his schedule at the beginning of the year. I would not have a problem asking my club to pay a sanctioning fee. I'd also like to see clubs put up a set schedule early in the year, but that's another discussion.

IR50/50 charges $1 per target shot at each match. For example, a 3 card match with 10 shooters in attendance would require the MD to send $30 to the sanctioning organization. This might be a better way for USARB to pay for expenses than hitting every shooter up for $25 at the beginning of the year. If a shooter shoots 25 targets a year (I know I'll shoot more than that), you'll have your $25 a shooter.
My 2 cents worth,
Todd

I wouldn't have a problem with a modest fee per club to register or a nominal charge per target for registered matches. I'd not be in favor for dues from shooters for a couple of reasons. If some one shows up at a match how would I know if he's registered? Who's going to collect and keep track of it? Will it discourage new shooters at a time when we need all we can get?

I agree with Todd and Dennis, each sanctioned club pays $20.00 for the year. The match director will collect $1.00 per target to be sent in. Shooters will pay the $3.00 for a sanctioned match. You could also have some cool pins made up for match directors to purchase (250 pins, overall winner, high cards etc.) to hand out to the top shooters for their achievements for that day.

These are simple ways to bring in extra funds to the organization.

Regards,
Joe

I agree Steve with your thoughts on membership. You and I have discussed this several times before and I believe we as an association have the duty to assist talented less fortunate shooters.

You and a few other most gracious shooters have been floating our group for a couple of years now. I too realize through our constant daily phone conversations you wished to keep our group as uncomplicated and shooter friendly as possible with minimum rules and regulations. It seems we have grown up and I feel it time and right for the rest of us to to step up and help, to enter into some serious discussion on the direction and mission of the USARBR. and relieve you and others that have been carrying the load that made all this possible. I know this is something you have been trying to avoid but the association has grown and put us in places we did not particularly want to be but perhaps now find it is time to evaluate and address.

I too as a founding member of USARBR wish to thank every single shooter, sponsor, whatever the capacity that helped us get to where we are today......WE ARE FOREVER GREATFUL.

History will show USARBR dramaticlly changed the game of air rifle competition forever as predicted. We have taken the game of accuracy in air rifles to heights never imagined. We amazed a lot of people and come a long way in just over 2 years. We have unearthed talented smiths and shooters that two years ago nobody even knew existed..........now many international record holders. We are Internationally recognized as a force to be reckoned with. I would say we did very well out of a single phone conversation and a dream. I guess perhaps it is time for us to come of age and take our responsible place in the accuracy shooting world. It is going to involve some real work.

The following are my personal thoughts:

I would like to see a mission statement from the association to define direction and how and where the monies are to be used.
I would like to see a 3 panel team evaluate each (to assist) recomendation. Shooters perhaps club recomended.

Clubs should be required to pay a yearly fee to the association to hold sanction matches only. I sincerly doubt that these monies alone could finance the associations mission. I hate asking the same people over and over again for money to finance whatever.........Realistically we are only looking at creating around $500.00 with present club membership.

Sanction matches are the only place where records and stats are recorded and compiled for associations titles and scores.

Club records can be just that but are not association records.

Individual membership should be required for a shooter to participate in any sanction match.
Every other association in a vast number of displines, racing, golf, archery, ping pong, you name it requires membership for a competitor to compete. Why would we chose to be different? This yearly fee would provide a constant cash flow for various venues such as metals, decals, shirts etc.

Clubs should require a card fee and or entry fee from each shooter and they keep all this money no matter what kind of match is being held.

The club yearly sanction fees along with yearly or even lifetime individial memberships are to be paid directly to the association. The goal in my mind would be to help finance our membership in the world organization(that I believe you have been paying out of your pocket) plus assisting less fortunate talented shooters that we may be well represented in serious matches.

All shooting associations require such monies to participate so this would not be something we as shooters are not familar with. I too assume we are going to need a sec/treasurer and issue yearly membership cards and financial statements. I will volunteer for this job.

Let's gather thoughts and recomendations from our shooters and see what emerges as great recomendations and put together a preliminary list and see what the group feels is best.

My 2 cents worth

Usarb membership dues

Hi Steve,
It would help to know what you are paying now for the administration of the national organization. This should include the WRABF sanction dues, web site support, phone bills & postage associated with all aspects of the association (plus whatever you are paying). Are you considering club benefits such as a newsletter or regional match prizes that would require additional funds? I would suggest implementing a first phase of covering your expenses. Our local club is obligated to financially support our youth shooters and pay a range fee per match. We have 26 scheduled matches a year times 3 targets each. I would have a hard time charging 78 dollars on top of our other match costs per shooter. I believe a club sanction fee that would cover your expenses (don't need a newsletter beyond the current site) and nominal fee for your time should be expected. This should be based on your cost expectations for the year. If each club wants to charge their members a dollar a card to replenish their treasury, that's up to them. Before recommending national match prizes, I would need to know the sanction fees settled on plus the expected total cost of the prize fund to be divided by shooter's or clubs. Hope that's helpful and again, it would add a lot to the discussion to know what your annual expenses amount to.

In the Centerfire Benchrest World, the two major Orgs charge a membership fee, a Club Sanctioning fee and the clubs a per shooter fee for each match. IBS' new membership fee is $45 as will be the Club fee. I believe the IBS per shooter match fee is $2.00 . There is a number of shooters who are members of both major orgs; some to simply supportthe org. As earlier stated, the Rimfire Orgs have a different slant. They offer a lot more targets to shoot so they can potentially gain more by using the per target shot charge.

One of the big differences with Airgun Benchrest vs the Rimfire is the smaller numbers of matches available and the format, which does not lend itself to having more targets shot per match. At most of the IBS matches I have shot their is a $15. per gun match charge which gives a shooter 6, 5 record bull targets to shoot over the course of the match. There are now two classes of rifles to compete with in IBS, VFS and Hunter. So, if one competed in both it would cost the shooter $30.00 per match day for shooting the equivilent of one of the targets we shoot per class.

What I would like to see is the same format as IR 50/50 has. Sporter, 10.5 and 13.5; one target per class, each shot to constitute a match, with Unlimited being a seperate class and seperate rules, which could be shot on the same match day, with a three target agg for the match or at a different day all together. Some clubs offer double matches on match days. I would like to see more shooting available at matches is what I am trying to convey.

There are lots of ways to do this and no reason to copy what the World Org does, exactly, IMHO. We can always play by their rules when required to do so as long as our rifle paramaters remain the same as theirs. At any rate, I don't see the cost as an issue, however it is done, providing the cost is not outrageous.

Thank you to everyone that provided input, both here and by phone.

We are a very young organization and should continue to move slowly as things change. Since we hope for increases in participation, no per target fee will begin. This and other options can be considered in the future. Given that, the membership dues will be as follows:

A $25.00 per year, per club fee will be collected for sanctioning purposes.
Funds will cover both organizational costs and discretionary items.
A three (3) member panel of volunteers will approve of discretionary items.

Who to send it to?

So, will we have an official form we can download and send in and where to?, I'm making up the 2013 schedule so the timing is right.

What address should we send this years 25.00 club membership fee

We are with you in Houston. Our check will go out with an address. I think you have most of our emails and need not post it here.

You work is appreciated.

usairriflebenchrest.com has a PayPal link which would be best. If that is inconvenient, send me an email.

Steve I assume you will list what ranges are sanctioned on our websight as the funds arrive?

Hi Steve,
I understand this is sufficient to cover your costs. However for the next level you would like to take this to, I would recommend a dollar a match per shooter. We have 26 matches scheduled per year times an average number of 6 shooters per match would mean contributing another $156 per year for Wild River Air Rifles. I would guess we probably have more matches scheduled than other clubs but this would work for us.
