My PPC boltface pulls and ejects cases so well, I didn’t want to possibly mess it up by having it opened for the 30BR case. I had seen what Jackie, Danny, Bill, and others could make a 30BR do.
In the meantime I stumbled onto a thread where Mike Ezell wrote something about a 30 Major. Sent an email or two inquiring about it. After a couple of replies, I called Mike. I could hear the excitement in his voice about the cartridge. He assured me that if I didn’t like it, he would rechamber the barrel in a 30BR for free.
My wife and I drove from Knoxville to Nashville, then north just into Kentucky. While one would drive, the other watched for highway numbers. Finally, the “Gun Shop” sign.
Mike screwed on the new barrel. The BIB bullets I had brought were not what Mike had been testing in his rifle, but it didn’t take him but a minute or two to locate a starting seating depth using the miniature neck and leade chamber tool that came with the barrel.
Mike fired a couple of shots. Then a 3-shot group. I looked through the scope. One hole. I tried a couple that went together. Mike adjusted the scope. He put five into one 10 ring. The group measured .171, not quite as good as the 3-shot group.
I believe this cartridge has potential. Every person I’ve met can shoot my rifles better than me, but surely I’ll be able to hit the ten ring once or twice when the flags are still.
