This is bugging me,I would like to hear what you guys think?
NYG receiver Plaxico Burress who shot himself in the thigh with a Glock 40 handgun at a NYC nightclub recently, Told police that the pistol was in the waistband of his running suit,He ordered a drink,the pistol started to slide down his leg, he grabbed for it and the gun went off.Everybody seems to buy this explanation. But if you ever had a Glock, you know there ain't NO WAY this could happen ! First you would have to have a round in the chamber(yeah,He definitely had that going on"),then you would have to get your trigger finger and a bunch of your trousers inside the trigger gaurd and you would then have to exert enough rearward force against your thigh or the web of your hand to fire the rather heavy and "designed to not accidentally go off" Glock trigger.
Being as Plaxico has possibly the "best hands in the NFL", I find his explanation of events even harder to believe. Any Glock owners out there ????

One thing is for sure we will never know the truth.

Several years ago a local businessman shot himself twice in the chest with a Glock as he was putting it back in the box. Hey I read it in the newspaper, it must be true;-)=
 
My guess owning 2 glocks is that he was showing off with the finger on the trigger possibly pulling it out of the waistband and had the finger on the trigger...it was total carelessness and arrogance not a Glock malfunction.
 
i personally dont care what his explanation is, he's a punk that broke the local law, and laws of common sense- guns and alcohol dont mix! frankly, i hope he does time.

Hey Joel, wanna bet somewhere down the road we hear he was playing with some hottie he was trying to boink and she somehow accidently drilled him.
Course there's always the possability some old angry girlfriend who knew he had it grabbed it and missed her target. Ya gotta love the variations. One thing's for sure, the span between talent and brains seems to be getting wider.
 
Sounds to me like he was lucky.Having a .40 Glock go off in your knickers sounds like a great way to be gelded.

35 million and the mayor of NY wanting to throw the book at you!! Seriously, if you have THAT much of a concern for your safety, then bring the party to your pad.

Even if it is NY, Booze and bars are a huge error in judgement...I just can't feel sorry for the guy. I'm sure Jerry Jones is salivating waiting to sign him up upon his release!!

You don't get carry permits from a box of cereal, not versed on the laws of every state regarding CC permits, but he was well aware of the laws in Florida regarding where you can or cannot carry a firearm..at least it was his responsibility to know.

One of the places you cannot carry a firearm unless you are LEO or the sort is where alcohol is served, haven't heard this mentioned yet on the news.

Anything could have happened, mix alcohol with a crowd that could have been unruly and the gun got in the wrong hands and who knows where this story could have ended.

Here's a little bit on Floridas carry rules, he should have been aware of the possible reciprocity laws...not to mention the fact NY doesn't even honor the permit.

I know of two people who accidentally (yes, accidently...no recklessness) and it both happened with Glocks. They have an inherent flaw that the company knows and address about 15 years ago. Or at least put out a warning. They are only to be carried in holsters that are formed fitted for that specific Glock....if not...they can go off..... What happens is the trigger can get hung up on about anything and be compressed and if a round is in the chamber....pow

Oh...almost forgot the third time...in a gun store in Indianapolis. A guy bought a brand new glock and ammo. The clerk asked him if he wanted a holster and he said no..he planned on carrying it in his pocket...he slid it in his front pocket and it discharged, he died on the way to the hospital because the bullet severed the large artery, the gun store was sued and lost and is no longer there.

cites??? What "flaw"? When did Glock issue this warning and correct this problem??

IF this can happen as you describe then it can happen with a double action revolver. "If the trigger is compressed the gun will fire..." Well DUHHHH!!

As far as it firing under its own weight or without being seriously manipulated, not possible. If you understand the guts of a Glock you'll see that this assertion is just ridiculous. There is no system more safe. IF THERE IS, then please explain it. These ARE guns, designed to kill stuff.

Well...all I can say is to my two buds with missing fingers and/or knuckles I guess are just liars....

It doesn't take a genious to know that a double action revolver is totally different than a glock to activate once the safety in the trigger is depressed...simple as that. A number of fit all holsters can and have compressed the trigger safety and trigger inside the trigger guard causing accidental discharge. Glock published a warning in the 90-94 timeframe. Don't remember exactly when...been to many years.

People can live in fantasy world if they want to about the safety of the glock but like any gun....it's only as safe as the user understands it. Personally, I have no problem with the glock. I trained with them and many other pistols but the fact remains...they can be accidentally triggers.

Wellll, how many people do you know who aren't prone to blame ANYTHING BUT their own ignorance. Doesn't make 'em LIARS, but the fact that you bring it up that way illustrates my point.

What does this mean?

It takes over 5 pounds to fire a Glock "once the safety's depressed".

Al,
Just do a google search on Glocks and be done with it. It happens a lot. During Desert Storm, the military didn't have enough pistols to outfit so they allowed officers to use their own personal weapons as long as they met certain guidelines (ie: 9mm ball compatable, etc.) One pistol banned was the Glock and for good reasons.

I took Hovis advise and did a google search for Glock Accidental Discharges.

Lots and lots of bad press on the model 22 in 40 caliber.
Start at hits 6 and 7 which show about 170 incidents.

pros get so much money so quick that a lot of them can't handle it,,the first thing tthar seems to happen is the attitude that laws were made for others.it goes down hill from there..then there are the punks..a rich punk is still a punk..pro or not
