Pencil Bluff, AR Spring Match

You are correct, March 14 & 15 is a NBRSA registered match. It will be a 4 gun event, UNL/HV/SP/LV @ 100/200 yards.
Ray Porter is the person to answer any questions concerning the match.

Some clarification

I spoke with Ray and clarified the course of fire.

All the matches this weekend will be at 200Y and we will shoot 4 classes; 1 class in the morning and 1 class in the afternoon both days. Exact sequence to be determined but probably will start Saturday morning with the ULs so the guns can be setup on Friday.

I had a great time my first time at Pencil Bluff last fall and am certainly looking forward to shooting there again in March. I'm encouraging all my DFW BR friends to make the trip. Ray also indicted that a second 4-gun match at 100Y sometime in 2020 is possible if there are sufficient shooters to justify the effort.

So, no point going if you don't have a rail gun?

Gerry,

There will be 4 separate matches; morning and afternoon, Saturday and Sunday. All at 200Y. As you know you can shoot any legal BR gun in the UL Class. But, if you choose not to do so, you can still shoot the HV/LV/SP classes the rest of the weekend.

We shooters need to make a diligent effort to support the local/regional matches we're fortunate enough to have remaining. Otherwise, they'll all be gone with the wind.

See you there!

bag gun

yes you can shoot your bag gun in unlimited.

we had a 4 gun several years ago and it was won by Richard Watson -- with a bag gun.

OK,I found the range on google maps. It's more than a five hour drive from here. Where's the best place to stay? Score or group match?

It's a Group match. All matches at 200Y. The DFW contingent is staying at the Sun Country Inn in Mena. Make reservations directly with the motel.

I plan to drive up Friday morning. Setup/quick tune Friday afternoon. In the past, others have driven over on Thursday and practiced all day Friday.

Jay Lynn, Glenn Chism, My Grandson, Randy Conger, and I have stayed in Mt. Ida. It is a beautiful range with great people at the matches. One of my favorite places to shoot.

There are 15 benches but only 14 are used during matches.

My wife would love to go to Arkansas. It’s a 8 hour drive from our house. That would mean driving all night with no sleep, the doing it again Sunday to get home.

I like the 200 yard 4 Gun format. We had great times over in Alabama at Mickey Coleman’s Range shooting that format.

Would love to see you at the match Jackie. Need your help. I can't figure out how to shoulder my new railgun. (grin)

Diamonds

To add to Ray's suggestion.

They have these Crystal Mine sites where the Public can go and look for crystals. A Teenager found a big diamond at a public search site, not far from the range.

Come on up and indulge in your favorite hobby. Bring the Family. They can look for Diamonds while you get acquainted with the Benchrest competition. I met Colonel Billy Stevens at this match one year. You never know what celebrity might show up at the Arkansas State shoot.:D

From Pencil Bluff,Ark,take 270 west about 3 miles, until you get to a 100yd long chicken Coop on the left. Cant miss it. Just past the Chicken Coop,Take a right at Mcquire Rd, follow it until it dead ends. You’ll see the Range. The Owners Name is John Henry. The Range is in his back yard.

At the suggestion of the late Richard Watson, we have been lodging at the, Sun Country Inn, in Mena,Ark, about a 30 minute drive from the range. There are closer lodging facilities at Mt Ida,Ark,about nine miles east of Pencil Bluff on Hwy 270.

I do not recommend the Mt Ida motel. Its a Dump.

What time does the

match start on Sat?

It looks like a 9-10 hr drive for me so don't know about practice on Friday.
