Not Too Cold for Krupa - Wins Score Match at WWCCA

Joe Krupa came from behind after dropping two points in the first match to beat out Ron Robovitski and Dominic Grunas at WWCCA 200 yard Score Match today. The conditions were COLD (19 degrees)!!! With gusty 15-20 mph winds out of the West.

Apparently, Joe's working on his next article... "How to freeze your ass off, and still win!"

Can wait until summer,
Lee ;)

200 yards:
Joe Krupa, 248-4x
Ron Robovitski, 247-7x
Dominic Grunas, 247-5x
Lee Hachigian, 245-2x :D
Tim Bassham, 240-5x
Dana Raven, 239-2x
Fritz Rector, 236-2x
Chuck Green, 233-4x

Not sure. Those pictures reflect how cold it was.
Good shooting, Fellas.
All good. :)
Can't wait for spring.

Lee you guys are tougher than cave men to shoot in those conditions. I'm such a wimp, I won't go to range if its below 50 degrees and then, only if the wind isn't blowing, which in West Texas is just about never. The tunnel has ruined me for shooting outdoors. See you guys in the spring at Kelbly's. :D

Best regards

Congratulations Joe. Nothin like dropping 2 points at the first and then whippin them in the end.
Man you guys are certifiable shootin in that weather. Where was Bill?

Hi Al,
I have been using Tetra Gun grease. Almost like white lithium. Great stuff. Coats real good. When it is thinly applied it is almost colorless. But, it is there.

WWCCA - Arctic shoot

Good shoot'n Joe and all the other good guys at WWCCA. TOO darn cold for this sissy! The guys must have ICE for blood!

Safety

looks like the bolts are in those rifles

jda, if you have ever been to a benchrest match you would know that we are some of the most safety conscious shooters around and WWCCA is one of the safest ranges to shoot at. Having said that, you should go and visit the folks at WWCCA next time they have a registered or club match for a hands on experience, if you live close by.

Dan Honert

ps. Good shooting you fools, I remember shooting in those conditions and all the fun we had, whish I could have been there but it was 38 degrees here Sunday brrrrrrrr.:D

Fun Times...

These matches are really a blast, and they break up the boredom of winter. One thing I did notice when shooting in the cold is that the air is really light, and the slightest change in direction moves the bullet much farther than normal summer conditions (half inch more at 200 yards). We had a strong tail wind moving from 11:00 to 1:00... you had to watch the flips.

As to bolt grease, etc., I used Dave Dohrmanns' "Bolt Magic" (works great).

Lee :D

To jda sr, ...there are no bolts in the guns !!!

Thanks Lee.

Now, could you clarify the term "light?" To me, the colder air would be "heavy" or "thick"....... in airplane terms it's "fat" meaning that you can fly crisper with more response and lift. In other words, shouldn't the cold and dry air AFFECT THE BULLET MORE??

(I think that's what you said, I just can't cipher the sense of "light")

I was going to shoot a bit this past Saturday morning. It was so cold that the paint started to drop off my old stock. After I got my right thumb and index finger separated from the bolt(a little warm water works well for this), I decided to retire to the wood stove. ( minus 28 F) --Greg :)

comfortable

That looks like a 24th of May shoot in Ontario. Congrats Joe it looks like you are not going to let up in 2009

didn't mean to step on anybody's toesat the range, just a little snip at an individual that doesn't think pictures should be taken of rifles with the bolts installed
my appolagies to all others
i would love to go to TN to shoot but its a long trip from upstate new york

I'm guessing that Mr jda sr is "sniping" at me

Mr jda sr sir, just because I'm in a thread doesn't give you liberty to post unrelated stuff from months ago. These fine fellows here have NO IDEA what you're referring to.

I'm guessing.

Are you the guy who posted the picture of your kid running downrange in front of a rifle with the bolt inserted??? If so, PLEASE don't air your laundry amongst these fine shooters.

And if so, the "snipe" was simply a comment that it's worthwhile to learn these habits early on because it'll keep you from being DQ'd from a Match after driving for two days and spending your entry fees........

FWIW
