New Light Varmint 30BR

I have been wanting to build a LV 30BR to shoot in NBRSA Group for some time. I finally gathered up enough pieces to put one together.

The stock is a Robertson I traded for and remolded in way of the action, the action is a Bat Nuevo, the trigger is a Bix&Andy, the scope a March High Master 48x mounted in Bat Rings.

The barrel is a 1-18 Krieger cut to 78 ounces at 22 inches. The tuner is my own. I left it a “bolt in” for now, but can always glue it in for a “screwed and glued” setup.

I am going to give Group Shooting a try with my 30BR’s next year.

How much for that front rest base? Looks hella stout....I think even a 30 will have trouble moving that puppy around!

Very cool, Jackie.

From my limited experience shooting a 10.5 lb. 30BR as a Group gun, the stock and balance makes all the difference. I dabbled with 10.5 lb. Group shooting with a 30BR with both the RFD 'Red Hammer' gun and my original Panda (that was later converted to a 13.5 gun).

I never could put a good Agg together with either...which says more about my pizz-poor talents as a Group shooter than anything else. ;) A 6th place in the Grand at the I.B.S. Iowa State tournament was the best I could muster. It was hard for me to adjust from my Score Shooting mentality to Group-think.

Finally, I decided to do a dedicated 10.5 30BR Group rig built around the Kelbly KLP stock to address what I felt were some tracking issues when using the other stocks in a Group setting. A bolt in R/L Panda with Stan Ware's 'Pand-iak' recoil lug conversion and a Kreiger twisted 1:17. I 'retired' from competitive Benchrest soon after I built it. But in testing, it tracked like it was on rails. No PPC of course but better than anything I'd had before. Didn't go around a Score target worth beans but that's not what it was built for. ;)

A few pics for what it's worth....
