New benchresters seek affiliation

Bob,
I agree, we gotta live by the rules,
But, isn't everyone shootin under the same conditions and at the same target, if so they would all have the same advantage or disadvantage.

No matter what the target is it has to have a center, right, and if I'm not mistaken to object is to keep all your shots in the center.

Now if someone was shootin at a larger target center I guess that would not be fair, but just because a guy has better ammo, or a better rifle, or is a better shot, that should not be something to worry about.
You say it's all in the ammo, then maybe you need to get better ammo.

In my world it's called "competition" and the shooter with the most skill, best ammo, and a better rifle will most likely come out on top. Isn't the whole idea of competition to see who that guy is, and then see what it takes to be that guy ?. I still would sooner support a real national association rather than a business no matter what the target is, as long as it's the same target for everyone.

S S: I heartily agree and that is why we are a competitive bunch. Remember what the original question was Jim posed that has now reverted to us sharing opinions. I applaud anyone who wants to get a club involved in competitive shooting. We were trying to help Jim understand the differences in the games. I think we can agree that he has more information now than before the question was posted. As to ammo, ya sure I am always looking for killer stuff. What I have worked well yesterday or will tomorrow. Rarely today. I chase the guys who can find what works today. Thats part of the fun. bob

I have been match director in both RBA and Ir50.
The original intent of RBA was to decentralize control. It was a breakoff from IR50. A few years after the breakoff, some rules were changed regarding equipment that were forced through by a club officer. That action resulted in some clubs leaving the organization.
While I will still shoot RBA, I much prefer IR50.

I like the different classifications of rifles because it is what I have always done and am use to doing. I started out in Benchrest running and shooting Rimfire events. back then, we didn't run sanctioned events but used IBS targets and their rules. I switched to Centerfire and have just gotten back to Rimfire. I still like the various rifle classifications better.

I once shot a 249-23 in a 6 Power scope class in Centerfire and only felt that I had dropped the last point. If I had shot an X instead of a 9 I would have set a record. The score game is simply that, the score game. The entry to being able to win is the highest score and the exes are frosting on the cake usually. Not achieving the highest score may be analogus to the recent horse race. Perhaps the second place horse was the best but wasn't on that particular day. Stuff happens.

I have always owned GM cars and trucks. Some of you may own Fords. Now I am pretty sure I can drive a Ford just as good as the man who owns one. I just prefer a Chevrolet. That is what makes us different other than I am right and if you own a Ford, you are not. :)

To each his own.
