Would like to attend one of those 10,000 yard matches one of these days, sounds like fun. When I was in the Navy we would go to Roosevelt Roads for NGFS Naval Gunfire Support Training. With the 5" gun on our ship we would regulary be tested at shots up to 13 nautical miles, 10,000 yards is 5 nautical miles. Our targets were old dump trucks and Bulldozers and things like that on Puerto Rico's beautiful beaches.

Oh, maybe it was just a small typo.:D

Mike,
I think the closest range that holds point blank IBS matches is Webster City, IA.
Lincoln Ikes has an informal 300 yd score benchrest match the first Saturday of each month and I believe an unsanctioned 200 yd State championship score match in June.

As you know CRC has 1000yd IBS matches as I have seen you there.

Still working on dates for Grand Island 600yd matches, with other matches around and activities at the Heartland Public Shooting Park dates are very limited this year I'll post when I have a schedule. There will certainly be no more than 3 IBS matches there this year and maybe only one or two.

Bring your AR on out to Byers. First match is April 25th.

Mike - keep in mind that the experiment we are trying is to give clubs the OPTION to hold and/or allow ARs. We are not dictating that they HAVE to. Personally, I would like to see all of the short-range shoots (sans Nationals of course) give it a try. I think 600 might be interesting. 1000 is a stretch.

another thought to consider

Mike,

Here's another thought to consider. Here in Michigan after the club we were shooting at near Detroit dropped IBS, there were no IBS clubs in Michigan. Did we drive to PA to shoot PA and shoot IBS Score? No. We got active at another club and ran IBS sanctioned matches. After two years of that we left it up to the local club members to run IBS matches. at the time aggregate costs had gone from 10 dollars to 12 dollars. The added 2 dollars was to pay the IBS portion of the matches. When we left the matches up to the club members they kept the 12 cost but dropped the IBS:confused:. We then were helping another club get there matches going and we took IBS there, since then this new club has attained a new range and can and does hold IBS matches at 100, 200 and 300 yards. This club has also hosted an IBS Benchrest school with our help. Also a Member of this club and the new Benchrest Department head has taken the bull by the horns and spearheaded a Michigan Score championship series where 4 clubs in Michigan host a few championship matches, at the end of the year shooters are awarded as to how well they placed in the championship series matches. Last year 4 clubs participated in the Series we would have liked to see all the clubs register their matches, but 1 didn't. The irony is that the club near Detroit that had dropped IBS picked them back up because of this Series. Registered matches are alive and well at all ends of michigan except in the middle. This year the Score series will have some matches registered with NBRSA because of their new stance toward VFS shooting. It was a logical move by the NBRSA and it seems to be paying off for them.

Where am I headed? If there are no registered matches near you, get active and bring the IBS to them.

Mike

The Northern Colorado Benchrest run by Bud Schales are NBRSA sanctioned shoots, not IBS, I have shot there several times 100&200 yard events.

You can correct me if i'm wrong, except for one year the "range in the middle"
has historically held non-registered matches. As far as I'm concerned we're guest at that range and run those matches according to the direction of the club board of directors. They (the BOD) aren't interested in having registered matches and until I see a compelling reason to do otherwise the matches will remain as they have in the past.

I pulled that NCBC range info from the IBS website. Maybe NCBC is affiliated with both organizations.......

i'm building a 300 win mag for 1000 yd at byers, but the ar matches...hmmm.

well i was hoping, knowing they are east coast part of br, that maybe someone close had affilitated.

one of my three ar br guns still has a gas system, and i'd be competitive with it that way.( tho i have never shot it semi auto for group..)

oh well i'll keep working on my br guns.....

Any BOD would be opposed to allowing folks to hold registered matches. Doesn't make sence to me. I would rather be in a position to offer shoots that if someone shot a World Record they could be recognized for doing that.

No, Al it was 2 years the second year you were working all the weekends that we had matches. Dad and Eric and I ran all the Score and Group. That was the second year that I didn't fire a single shot in Harrison. The year after that you guys chose to drop The IBS sanctioning and we went on to help Iosco.
