NBRSA LV and Sporter Gun Weight

Lets see 10 lb 8 oz is 10 and a half lb. or as my high school math says 10.5 lbs.

Gven the requirement to have check weights on hand at registered matches, it COULD/SHOULD be implied that the scales be within the half ounce "leeway" previously mentioned - either high or low. If the scales is reading high by half an ounce, and your rifle is actually too heavy by half an ounce, you would likely end up in the DQ seats.

My piont is that you shouldn't build to that half ounce. The drop dead rifle limit is 10.5 pounds and the half ounce goes to the scales.

Additionally, Dave's words concerning how they do it in his part of the country says volumes about what's going on with rule enforcement.

Wilbur, hear is the scariest senario. Say they weigh Rifles, and a shooter's Rifle, after every effort, still weighed 169 ounces. But they said, "it's ok".

Then, the Shooter goes out and shoots a potential record, and his Rifle has to be certified. Is that ounce still OK??..........JACKIE

There's no line on the record submission form to sign that the rifle was "certified".....so yes, the ounce is still OK.

Ok, to clear up alot of the "math" confusion. The gun with scope and rings currently weighs 164.96 oz. the new scope weights 3 oz more. This will bring the weight up to 167.94 oz. If the weight limit is ten and one half pound that would make the weight limit 168 oz.
10.5 x 16 oz = 168.

jeff
it was a pleasure to meet you.
guys, do not worry about jeff and his rifle - it made wt just fine. we seen to it that he had what it took.

good luck down the road- ray

That is still really close. But legal. Like was said have your next barrell made lighter to not have any problems.

Wilbur, for a record to be submitted, the Rifle has to be legal for the class shot.......jackie

And it would seem too me it is up to the Range personnel and Referees on site to see that the rifle is of a legal weight before they turn the targets in for consideration as a possible record. Obviously the records committee with nothing but the targets in front of them cannot weigh the rifle.

How did you do at the shoot, did you have fun??? I bet you did after your nerves calmed down. Nice bunch aren't they.

Everyone was very very nice and helpfull at the match. I had a great time and am looking forward to competing again. I have a lot of practice and reload tunning to do before next time. I have "the bug" for sure now though. I am trying to find things to sell in my house so that i can buy more benchrest supplies. Kind of like a crack addiction but not as hard on the body. =)

And a congrats to Ray Porter for winning the LV and getting the smallest 5 shot group in the LV too!!
