i just tried an unsuccessful search here so I will ask; Can someone direct me to the source of a moderately priced quick change tool post for my 10" South Bend Lathe?

Thanks,

Pete

Pete, I have the Aloris CXA, and for the post I may not get a copy, but for the tool holders I must admit I had to get a few that were inexpensive copies. CDCO has them really cheap.

The best price I found on an Aloris tool post was at Enco several years ago when I purchased mine. I have a DTM tool post on one lathe and the Aloris on the other. I like the Aloris better. When I bought the Aloris BXA tool post, it was $180. Unfortunately, the AXA model is now $300 from Enco, the BXA model is $366 and that's for the tool post alone. http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INPDFF?PMPAGE=509&PARTPG=INLMK3&PMITEM=990-1334 Just about anything we buy anymore especially imports are almost twice what they were a year ago. I guess that's our government's trillion dollar economic recovery plan at work.

there are two styles...get the more expensive... piston and wedge..wedge is the better...someone correct me if wrong. aloris..is expensive. the 10 in uses a 100 series..but think you can use 200 also.

FWIW I bought my Aloris stuff brand new and paid $1600 for it.

Crappy part is I've yet to use them! I don't have a manual lathe!

Brand new, I'd sell em for a fair offer. I took em out of the plastic and that's it. I did buy an additional tool holder that was used off an Ebay auction.

Thinker over. . .

Will it fit my little ole South Bend?

We have Aloris Tool Holders on all of our machines except the big 44 ft LeBlond. What you might have to do is make a custom clamp plate that fits into the compound. They will furnish you a blank if you ask, (a piece of plate with a tapped hole in it), so you can machine it to fit any compound.

If you are just doing hobby work, you do not have to pay for that Aloris name. Every major tool house sells knock-offs that for the hobbyist work just fine.

Do stay away from the styles that have the plunger instead of the verticle wedge lock. Grit and scum will get in that plunger hand clog it up, making changing holders a hassle.........jackie

Here they are. . .

I've had these in a box for close to two years. Just sitting collecting dust. never been used. The one on the end there is the used one I picked up on Ebay.

You should only...

Have to modify the t-slot nut. The BXA will all fit a lathe with a 10-15" swing. Always get the Wedge style. Piston style is a bad buy. Band new or not.
